Print, capital letters, handwritten.

Type, pretty self-explanatory. Type-writers or computer.

It's ok to mix-and-match, as long as it is legible.

Just type everything and you should be fine. You have the option to write with a black ink pen for questions that allow print.

Yes, it probably WILL be rejected. They want the same person who signs to legibly print their name by hand in the applicable space indicated. This is really a no brainer. Just do as the form asks.

In general, yes. On line 30 of an I-864 or line 20 of an I-864EZ, they definitely care.

See the thread I just started yesterday:

Approved AOS thread - did accepted sponsors hand print or use the printer?

It's not a "no-brainer." It is an ambiguity in our vernacular, when the instructions can be interpreted different ways. If they mean hand-print, they should say so, b/c my printer "printed" my name just great! LOL

Funny how the younger generation interprets "can get away with it" as "they don't care". For me, it's a no brainer. The sponsor's name is asked for elsewhere on the form, where it would obviously be either typed or printed. Line 30 and 20 as mentioned specifically says "print" where other instructions indicate "type or print". Yes, they'll let you get away with typing instead but that doesn't mean they don't care.

Here's another one for you that actually IS ambiguous. When the instructions say "type or print using capital letters" does it mean if you type, you should also use all CAPS or only if you "print"? Why would they say type or print if print means the same thing as type? They key is that it be legible but what do they actually mean by those instructions. blush.gif

Agree  . Initially, I've typed on computer my I-864 without CAPITALS, but later I've re-done it with CAPITALS, as it's required. You might get away with that, but what about if that person from NVC happens to be picky and issues and RFE?

Personally, I hate CAPITAL printing or handwriting when it says to do so. But, in case of I-864 I've just overstepped myself and followed instructions.

Again, the instruction about capital letters is ambiguous. Only if you are "printing" the information into a blank form on paper, are they asking you to use all capital letters. If you type, you can type normally. Two choices, type, or print in capital letters. Of course typing in all Capital letters is OK too. It's a matter of comma usage. It would be less ambiguous if there were a comma after "type" and/or after print, but there's not. If there were a comma after print and not after type, the instruction would be capital letters whether printed OR typed. With no commas it's ambiguous but DOES mean type normally or print in capital letters. In this context, "print" is something you do with your hand and printing with your hand is what is requested on line 30.

In general, yes. On line 30 of an I-864 or line 20 of an I-864EZ, they definitely care.

One of us opened another thread to check the experiences of others with successful accepted AOS. And almost all mentioned that they just typed their name in Item 30 in I-864 and had

no issues with NVC - all those were accepted by NVC. My AOS is being processed right now and I didn't write my name - just typed it and sent and will let you know the result in a day or two.
