we are going to register .. Fiance is a huge crate and barrel fan.. I have no choice.. that is where we will go

we didn't since we essentially went to the nearest JP and got hitched without anyone there and no reception. if we'd had a big family wedding, then sure, why not? if you don't need anything, then the charity angle is nice. i saw somewhere that you can get a tree planted in honor of the couple. if you're into the environment and stuff, that would be ideal.

We recently attended a huge wedding and they didn't register either, there were lots of fat envelopes tho.

No we did not. We did not have a 'wedding' so it would have felt weird. We have gotten cash and gift cards. That is good.

Oh yes, we definitely registered. Carlos was still in Panama at the time, so we looked online together for things we both liked..ended up registering at Target, Linens and Things..and a really cool website called THEBIGDAY.com..where you can register for honeymoon stuff, like part of your hotel, dinners out..etc. I know a couple that registered only there because they lived together for quite sometime and had a household set up already. They got like 2000 dollars worth of stuff..honeymoon paid for!

We registered.

Everyone, with I think three exceptions, got us cash. Since our wedding was in the US and we live in the UK, gifts weren't really practical to take home on the plane. Some people had them shipped to us over here though.

I think the modern practice of living together before marriage somewhat negates the need, as the newlyweds' homes are usually completely set up long before the wedding. This was the case with us, although I wouldn't have looked amiss on some new KitchenAid appliances, either!

We had a Gift Registry... It was fine because our guests stuck to it and we got nearly everything.

The problem was that my MIL lives in a small town, where this shop didn't have a branch and her friends just wouldn't ring them to get the present through the phone or go online. So we got loads of repeats, gift vouchers and cash.

As we had already been living together for over 3 years we requested no gifts....but we did end up with a lovely boxed set of Edinburgh Chrystal wine glasses and some bottles of Moet....which was great!

I like the idea of registering with walmart that someone mentioned, since they're not too expensive. The Macy's here usually has horrible prices!

Yes, we registered. And I don't think it prevented anyone who was intending to give cash to buy from the registry instead, since we got a good amount of cash as well. We were able to set up our entire kitchen from Crate & Barrel. Luckily, my grandparents' gift to us was to buy everything on the registry that others hadn't already gotten for us.

we included a note with our invitations that explained that we had registered at target and bed bath and beyond, or if guests would prefer, they could donate money towards immigration expenses. we received enough cash at our wedding to pay for a honeymoon and AOS. tacky? maybe...but it was what we really needed most.

Yes we registered at Target and Walmart. It's very important if you are going to have a bridal shower. People do want to know what you want, so they don't feel like they are getting you something you won't like. It helped and I got a lot of stuff we needed, at my shower. Then at the wedding we mostly got money and just a couple of gifts. People did ask where we were registered, and so we put a note in the invitations for the bridal shower (that is common around here at least). Target has a package you get when you register that gives you a bunch of cute looking "We're registered at Target" notes. I don't remember if walmart did too.

We registered at Canadian Tire and Sears, I think. I don't remember. Doesn't matter anyway since we mostly got money.

We were given money 'cause most of his family couldn't come to the wedding. While I was in NS his family gave us a shower, but it was monetary gifts as well, since there was no way I could carry back 15 or so gifts through customs and security. The money helped us with our immediate expenses and the honeymoon. We really didn't have a need for anything other than a crockpot (which we got )
