VJ wiki's are so rife with poorly written proses. Many a-times I intended to create and account and edit this stuff to make them of some quality. Just a quick edit of the pages would produce something much better. Here's one quick example on POE wiki.

ok, but what if you're driving across the border?

Same things. I did my POE at the Peace Bridge. Just needed passport, and unopened brown envelope from consulate. I had my x-ray but wasn't asked for it.

you definitely don't need your x-ray to cross the border. The border guards aren't doctors and would have no idea what to look! :D

You don't even need it for the interview, but you might as well keep it for your new doctor in the US

some mention the I-94 that you get on the plane i think, but i don't think you need that.

Yup - that's for K-1/K-2/K-3/K-4 visa holders

CR-1/2, IR-1/2 and IR-5s don't use it.

All you need is the declaration form that is given while on the plane. This is the form that you declare items you will be bringing into the U.S. At the POE go to the line for US citizens. The IO will ask for your brown envelope and after a few minutes will stamp a date and hand write your Alien registration # next to your IR/CR visa. This validates the visa as a temporary green card.

The IO will then ask you ( or escort you ) to another area where you will wait in line to complete the entry. T-A-K-E Y-O-U-R T-I-M-E. No need to rush. A lot of the mistakes or missing documents happen at this point so make sure that you smile at the person processing your paperwork. It will take about ten minutes. S/he will either ask you to wait for him/her to process everything or ( if s/he is nice ) ask you to go get your luggage and come back to him wherein s/he will hand you a WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES printed letter.

Then you take your stuff through the final inspection area like everyone else and find the exit door.

A lot of POE's don't handwrite the A# anymore. Mine wasn't at Chicago. Don't be confused. It's the registration # on your visa.
