Chris Dodd is an idiot. If he thinks regulation started getting tossed out the window during the Bush administration, I would suggest he takes look back another few years to see when everything started going downhill in certain areas and when the game was setup for the economy to go downhill as well. Of course it's easy to blame the former when you're still 'new' and the things you are trying don't work...

I'm surprised Obama hasn't come out yet and said "George Bush" on this.

Of course it's his fault is the Louisiana coastline gets screwed up entirely. The moron won't give permits to Jindhal to get things going that he's been asking for the past couple of weeks.

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) on Tuesday said partial blame for the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico lies with the Bush administration.

Asked on the "Imus in the Morning" program on Fox Business Network if the Obama administration is to blame for the damaging fallout of the spill, the Connecticut senator took aim at the previous administration.

"Well, you know, they come into office a year ago with all of this. And so, after the last eight years —" Dodd said, until being interrupted by host Don Imus, who said "Oh, come on."

"It was 'drill, drill, drill.' I think you were quoting 'Drill, drill, drill' a few months ago," Dodd fired back.

"Don't try to lump me with Sarah Palin," Imus responded. "And don't use that lame excuse to me about the Bush administration. Have you lost your mind?"

Many lawmakers and some senior Democratic strategists have criticized the administration's response to the spill, saying it has not acted with enough urgency and it has not been tough enough with BP.

The spill, caused by an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig leased by BP, occurred in the Gulf more than a month ago.

Since then, oil has been pouring out of an underground pipe damaged in the explosion, threatening the shoreline of Louisiana, causing harm to wildlife and restricting the activity of commercial fishers in several states.

Obama "energy czar" Carol Browner on Tuesday called the spill the worst in U.S. history.

Obama administration officials have pushed back against allegations that they haven't been tough enough with BP. They have cited legislation they put forth to raise the liability cap for oil companies that cause spills, and the work of federal agencies in trying to stop the leakage.

Dodd said that the rig was built years ago and the damage is the result of decades of poor regulation.

"To lay this at Obama's doorstep, in light of years and years of regulatory permissiveness when it comes to these kinds of operations occurring, it didn't occur in the last year and a half," he said. "I mean, you know that as well as I do. You can't lay this all at Obama's doorstep anymore than I can say — go ahead. I'm sorry."

Blame all the folks that don't want to drill in shallow water, or on land for that matter, but still wanted all the comforts of a modern plastic society. Out of sight, out of mind. Hell, drilling in deep water, you are not even bothering the fishermen, or so we thought. Didn't anyone consider that the pressure at -5000ft is over 2000psi? Money talks, and bullshit walks, well it should have, because everyone swallowed it all, hook, line, and sinker.

Obviously they considered what the pressure was - it wouldn't have been possible to build the rig and operate it at all if they had ignored something so basic. As to whether drilling closer to shore is safer? Hmm, I don't think that's going to be given an auto pass Bill, but nice try

Well, that's taking one and one and jumping straight through to 7 isn't it Bill?

As I understand it, that it turned into a disaster, as apposed to a serious difficulty was down to a specific set of less than likely circumstances. While it was neglectful, it wasn't deliberate and it wasn't willfully ignoring reality.

The failures of Katrina were at the hands of the scum mayor, the scum governor, and corruption all around by the leadership of that state.

The army core of engineers knew of the problems with the levees, yet nothing was done about it before hand....

The Corp of Engineers knew of the problem for decades (waking up to their mistakes of the 1930s when the Corp design it). The Bush Administration was incompete with the response to Katrina. The Feds via the military know how to move massive amounts of anything from anywhere in the world and has the means to do that. The Obama Administration is impotent in the oil spill. Only private industry knows how to stop oil leaks and have the tools to do it.
