Problem with I-130 fee check

USCIS cashed my check. On the back of the check it wrote my case number ending with WAC-XXX-XXX-XXX6, ending in 6. Then I got my NOA1 and on there the case number is WAC-XXX-XXX-XXX7, ending in 7. What should I do? Should I worry about this? Should I call USCIS? Please help. Thanks.

It's not a problem, happens to everyone. Seems like ti's a temporary case number or something. Use the number from your NOA1 for tracking.

Seems to be the norm. Same thing happened with us, the one on the NOA1 is the one to use. Good luck!

Since two people have confirmed this, I will rest assured. But a part of me says something has been royally screwed up. But then again, how can they generate the NOA1 without actually getting the greenbacks? They can't, right? So I guess I shouldn't worry. I might call USCIS later on just to satisfy my OCD. Thanks.

If they have cashed your $$ and issued the NOA1 you are fine. Now it's the wait for the NOA2. Use this time to familiarize yourself with the NVC process and start gathering the required documents. Good luck!

I'm actually done gathering all the NVC things already. I have two of the major things ready: tax transcripts (yearly and account,) tax copies, Form I-864. I'm preparing my wife to do the electronic agent selection. I'm still a bit shift on the whole DS3032; D230, Packet IV, Packet III, etc. I figure I have a while to learn those. I've been a bit lazy also I can't find a definative guide. One guide says one thing another says another thing. Throw some hints my ways.

this 'number offset' is NORMAL. In fact, if you had viewed the check online with yer bank, got the #, then added 1 to it - you'd have the USCIS case number to use, on the online status portal.

Not always, you have to add 1 digit to the WAC no you found on the back of the cheque. Because for me my last two digits from the back of the cheque were 2 digits less from what I got on NOA 1.

Thanks to Darnell's nagging (!) I read a bit about the whole NVC process. It turns out I qualify to file I-864EZ for NVC instead of full I-864. Yay! Less paper work. Also I learned Department of State prefers form filled in uppercase letter. Who doesn't?

And I read through the whole NVC guidelines. I feel sleepy now. But atleast I know have registered all of these things on teh back of my head. I'm going to read this guideline once more in couple of week and initiate the process to obtain all the documents and have plans ready. I mean you can't do most of these things until NVC tells you to do them now. And I just got my USCIS NOA1 5 days ago. Still a bit to go. Hope it goes fast. Thanks.

Nagging ? What nagging? That was just a helpful suggestion!

It took me multiple read throughs to finally get a hold on the details but it will all become clear as you move through the process. You can start to obtain some documents now; long form birth certificate is one that comes to mind. Good luck!

P4 - Interview letter & checklist

You won't get any correspondence like the K1's do once you've received your AOS bill and IV bill from the NVC. So don't sit and wait around and wait for instructions. Next thing you will receive after your bills (barring any RFE's) is the interview letter which is the P4 when your case is complete and forwarded to the NVC.
