Clarification on NOA1 date?

 Share

Sorry everyone, I know there's been several posts on this question, but when I'm actually looking for the answer, I can't find those posts. And the ones I did find didn't give me a definitive answer.

In the VJ timelines there are spots for date sent and NOA1. I sent my I-130 on March 2nd, it was received on March 8th, and my check was cashed on March 15th. So, is my NOA1 date March 8th or March 15th?

Thanks for any and all help!

When you actually receive your NOA1 you will find a priority date. It is probably the day it was received ( if it came early in the day ) or the day after. It shows the date your file first got a number and was entered into the system. All things being equal it is the order it will be processed by

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

hey Jess&Daniel -

I thought it was the DATE that is printed IN/ON the Notice of Receipt, that NOA-1, form I-797-C.

Did you receive one, yet?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

That is how I understood it as well.

The receipt date on our NOA1 corresponded to the date the cheque was cashed and the priority date on the NOA 1 corresponded to the date they received it (only a difference of 4 days.)

Hi everyone! Thanks for your responses!

Yes, we did receive our NOA1 and I-797, dated March 15th. After I got confirmation that my package had arrived, I was calling the USCIS every other day trying to figure out what my receipt date was to check the status online (little did I know that the online status isn't very eventful), and the operator told me not to stress because the date they received it was taken into consideration, I just don't remember her exact reasoning.

Anyways, not a big deal, I just wanted to be sure my timelines were accurate. Thanks everyone!

Damnit! Now I can't wait to go home and check the receipt date and the other date on my NOA1. It sucks because I'm stuck at work now. Way to go guys, messing with my mind. :P To be certainly honest, a week this way or that way doesn't make much of difference. Especially since I am planning to visit my wife before the whole process is said for and done. Unless of course I get our NOA2 in 1.5 months. Then no reason for me to go as she'll come here soon. *fingers crossed*

don't sweat the priority date -

if one of the spouse's is a USC, and the other a foreigner, then is 'immediate priority date'.
