So my husband finally sends the petition express to Chicago on Friday with instructions to have it delivered today because the office will be closed on Saturday...and sure enough they attempted delivery on SATURDAY and left a notice for pick-up. I have a gut feeling they will not go to pick it up at the post office!

And because it was an express delivery, I can't reschedule online....my husband has to call his local number before 5pm (in which he can't today as he's working) to have it redelivered. The ONLY bonus is a refund of the money because of USPS' error. But who cares so much about the money....the point of expressing it and paying more is to get it there FAST AND SECURE!

I'm already fed-up with the immigration process and it's ONLY JUST BEGUN! I am seriously considering sponsoring my husband to live in Canada. American organizations are retarded and the immigration guidelines are as well.

OUCH! No wonder the Post Office is going broke faster than Bill Clinton running to McD's to meet an intern.

Thanks for the heads up. Won't mail AOS on a friday, but on a Saturday, to get there on a Monday.

Hope your process is not held up because of the bonehead's at USPS.

One problem with USPS Express Mail is that signature confirmation is included. This poses a problem if the addressee is a post office box. USCIS, like many other offices, will only check their P.O. box once daily.

So, if your mail is delivered after USCIS checked their box, it will not be marked as delivered, but rather notice left. The system isn't perfect...but what system is?

I wouldn't panic too much. Seems pretty routine to me.

I got confirmation of the receipt more than a week later

and the NOA1 more than 2 weeks later than I sent the

package in. With the lockbox system this seems to be

par for the course. A notice is routinely left and the USCIS

staff goes to the PO to pick it up. It's only after that happens

that you get your USPS receipt.

Whether you send it ordinary or express they have to be

there to pick it up. If not, you have to wait.

The system is not perfect but this is just one of the quirks.

Something outside the category of "quirk" was the IO at the

POE getting my wife's name wrong on the I-94. The applicant

has to get it corrected even if it is their mistake which was

checked by 2 officers who didn't catch it until she was

out of the airport.

Also something outside of the "quirk" category is them failing

to even staple an I-94 ticket into the passport. I've seen many

reports of that on VJ.

A lot more serious things can happen than just a slight delay in

getting an application through the door.

Hopefully the system does suck and they reattempted delivery today considering the guarantee was for today.

When I mailed my wife's AOS application there was a guy in the line ahead of me (diamond dealer)

who was trying to get the USPS to trace a package of his that was lost. However, he did admit

that he put the WRONG zip code on the package. Wherever you go, there is always someone

who's in worse shape...best of luck in your application.smile.gif

I expect you'll see they signed for it today. Avoiding signature issues is why I always recommend Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. It costs a lot less, requires no signature and what's an extra day in a months long process anyway.

Very true Pushbrk. I sent mine Priority on Thursday with delivery confirmation. They tried to deliver on Saturday and then redelivered on today. It was cheaper and got there on the same day as it would have had I done express!

Your husband cannot arrange for the redelivery ( I tried that once when this happened to me) it has to be the USCIS that arranges for it, and they will pick it up don't worry. They receive lots of packages in a big place like that they probably have their very own "mail room" employees in charge of things like that.

Good luck with the rest of the process!

I am seriously considering sponsoring my husband to live in Canada. American organizations are retarded and the immigration guidelines are as well.

Trust me when I tell you that the Canadian process is just as screwed up. My wife tried to get her Permanent Residency reinstated and they jerked her around for 6 months (this particular process was only supposed to take 30 days) only to deny her in the end after making her go to to 3 separate interviews where all they did was go over her answers to their questions and have her sign a paper that the answers were correct. A week later, they gave her orders to leave the country and told her if she didn't within 30 days they would issue a warrant for her arrest. She was treated like a common criminal. Then they turned around and told her if she wanted to come back, to just go to the States for one day and then turn around and come back!! HELLO! Talk about contradicting yourself.

When she was at Canada immigration getting a Record of Departure, the Border Patrol kept her there for 45 minutes trying to figure out why Canada Immigration had refused her reinstatement. She finally told them she did not want to contest it, she just wanted to leave.

The American process may seem "retarded", but it has the checks and balances for a reason and I don't appreciate you insulting the U.S.

Doesn't matter if it's the U.S. or Canada, it's no walk in the park.

That does suck. I find, however, that USPS is fairly quick; I think it's related to them working 6 days not 5 like Canada post does. That's going to change next year or later this year for USPS as they are looking at cost savings and reducing operations by one day. But I find mails gets to places across the USA in very quick time ie one or two days etc. At least that's been my experience and was impressed. That doesn't help your situation not to mention you paid more to have it there even quicker.

There's lots of great reasons to stay in Canada; there's lots of great reasons to move to the USA. Don't let your frustration overwhelm you or it might. And if you're a the beginning of the immgration process, you may find you have a bit of a road, and it's not always straight.

Good luck and stay positive.

That address smells like the non-courier address.

When you send it with signature confirmation, it always needs to go to the 'courier address', as a human is required to sign something. UPS, Fedex, DHL, all use this same courier address - and I must assume that the address used was NOT the courier address.

Which of course, adds to the time. Some people have had to wait up to a week for the package to actually be signed for, as there is no human at the 'non courier address' to sign for things in real time. The notices are gathered up, over a weeks time, then the packages are received and signed for.

Sorry.

(I could be wrong, though, get it totally backwards on the RIGHT ADDRESS for ya).
