Virginia DMV Pulls License Plate Coded With Neo-Nazi Message From Truck With Anti-Islam Imagery

A photo has been circulating the Internet this week showing a truck parked in a disabled person parking spot, emblazoned with a large Confederate flag, and featuring a picture of the World Trade Center burning. The text on the truck reads, "Everything I ever need to know about Islam I learned on 9/11″:

While most sites focused on the offensive text and imagery all over the truck, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) noticed that the license plate contained a coded Neo-Nazi white supremacist message. CAIR alerted the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which prohibits placing offensive messages on vanity plates but had missed this one in its normal authorization process. Upon review, the DMV concluded the plate did indeed contain a coded hate message, and recalled the plate:

The number 88 stands for the eighth letter of the alphabet, H, doubled to signify "Heil Hitler," said CAIR's Ibrahim Hooper. "CV" stands for "Confederate veteran" —
the plate was a special model embossed with a Confederate flag, which Virginia makes available for a $10 fee to card-carrying members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
And 14 is code for imprisoned white supremacist David Lane's 14-word motto: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."

"t shows the convergence of anti-government and anti-Islamic sentiments that unfortunately seem to be growing," Hooper said. The Sons of Confederate Veterans is the group that encouraged Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell ® to declare April Confederate History Month.

No offense but I think the DMV went a little far on this. He should be able to keep that plate even if it does have a coded message in it. If its coded its obviously not meant to incite anything as I wouldn't have a clue what it meant if the article didn't explain.

Your tax dollars at work. Like we don't have any other problems in this country but personalized license plates that carry some secret code nobody understands anyway . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I have never understood anyone waving a confederate flag. It's like, you lost the war. Who in their right mind celebrates being beaten?

Considering hatred is still covered by free speech, why should he not have this #######. Of course, he'd be arrested for that in AUS.

BNP is the the British National Party which no one in this country knows much about or cares about either. If anyone wants it on their license plate here, it doesn't bother me.

People put political bumper stickers on their cars that are more objectionable so I wouldn't worry about license plates much.

I don't know... I half think CAIR "found a code" whether it was what those letter stood for is questionable to me.

Anyway, what was "anti-government" about this plate? If the "secret code" is true it might be anti- muslim or anti-Jew but I don't see the anti-govt.
