Democrats Decide to Go for Hispanic Votes Over Environmentalist Votes?

Understood, but the logic the news pundits seem to be pushing is that the Dem's are chasing immigration reform first because it will help them control the blood letting this November. As I said, unless they're thinking about some blindingly fast amnesty system that will make US citizens out of illegal aliens before November, I don't see how this is going to pick up a significant number of votes. It's a safe bet that Hispanics are going to vote Democrat in November, as they've always done. If they don't get immigration reform before then, I don't see them crossing the line and voting for Republicans out of protest. The whole thing seems like preaching to the choir.

Where the logic really seems to fall apart is with the centrists. Neither of these issues are top priorities for the moderates in either party or the independents, but it is those people who have the power to make a major shift in the outcome of an election. If the Dem's are looking for maximum benefit in November, you'd think they'd be sucking up to the group that has a chance of changing the game, and not trying to appease disgruntled party loyalists who are going to vote for them regardless. Trying to make voters out of illegal aliens is more of a long term goal that won't help them much this election cycle. Either the Democratic leadership is way off the mark here, or the pundits have completely missed the motivation for pursuing this now. Personally, I'm baffled.

Think not about the illegal immigrants who (supposedly) can't vote and think about energising an additional 30% or so of those who are already here, but who don't usually go and vote.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

I think the Democrats are thinking long here. They know they'll lose some seats this election, I think its likely they are doing this for 2012. The reason they are doing it now is because they know that this is pretty much the last chance they have to push it through before they lose seats. They are betting on losing now so that they might win in a few years.

Pretty much the Socialists are looking to try to make the Neocons look bad here. The Socialists just passed Health care and think it makes them look so called humanitarian and if they go for the immigration ####### now they can say they are true humanitarians and hope the people think the Neocons are not this way and thus the Cons are anti people. This is close to where they are about to have a blood bath and really need to take a bad sting from very unpopular things like the health care bill and the huge deficit spending and taxes and huge partisanship they do. It is all about deflection right now. Immigration reform is a huge emotional issue and no better deflection.

It is emotional only for those that will benefit, directly or indirectly, from the proposals.

To the majority of the rest of us, this is simply wrong.

Exactly and that is why it will fail. Even many in their party will leave them but it is a huge deflection and distraction at the most opportune time needed for just that. Trust me they are feeling the heat and can do nothing to stem the blood loss they will have coming soon. The reasons are the huge deficit and a even another record deficit coming. The people are finally seeing a deficit that is staggering to them. They were morons before and should have hated deficits before but it took the Socialists to show how to stagger people on what the amount needed to do so. And get this. Even after all this huge money spent the economy is still teetering and unemployment is still high. A huge distraction is much needed now.

And it's a distraction that, with any luck, will seal the fate of so many Democrats that Harry Reid will never show his face again. The man has no clue what the American people actually want. He just believes that since the Democrats were voted into their current position in 2008, the voters want whatever the Democrats think they want, rather than what they actually voted for, which was a change from BushBaby and the Republicans.

I don't think so, I'm a moderate who has been semi-happy about legislation so far. If they push this through I will certainly be alienated.

And your the ones are why it will fail and they know it. It is more than a coincidence that they are trying this at this particular time. They can say they tried and failed but at the same time they will have distracted the many who are very dissatisfied right now. The Neocons are more than happy to take this issue up and spin their own legislation and take this issue away from the Socialists and they know it. After the bloodbath coming they can say that it is their issue. The Neocons will have both houses and do some kind of immigration reform and take it away. Obama the Socialist will have to sign their version just to seem like he wants to help the poor illegals.

At this time the emotions will go wild and of course most of the voters have short memories and many will forget the plight of the country or so the Socialists hope so anyway.

The Socialists were voted in with the very platform that they are pushing now so tough #######. They even said they would continue warring but just in another place. The sheep got what they wanted and deserved.

Again, prove your original point.

Every person has an environmental impact. Your life had an environmental impact in Australia, by moving here, you have shifted your environmental impact to the US. You probably haven't really increased or decreased your overall environmental impact, you just shifted the places that it might affect.

So again, how does immigration increase a persons environmental impact, more than what they have already been doing in their home country.

You mean my impact on the world. I am talking the impact on the country - as in USA. You think China or Mexico has the same environment as Australia, Canada or the US. Sure as hell sounds like you guys want us to literally become the next Mexico.

What you fail to grasp is that Americas job is to look out for America; not Mexico or any other country. Your bizarre stance on the environment is no different to those who say America needs to fix Mexico's poor so that illegal aliens won't come here. WTH...

Adding 20,000,000 people to America increases the environmental impact on America. Simple as that. Therefore, anyone who supports this should not open their mouth and cry about the environment.

The environment is global, not neatly divided up into countries and borders. What we do in the US, affects the environment in other places around the world. You can't look at environmental issues as to how it affects just a single country.

Your argument is stupid, it would apply to any immigrant legal or not. So, dude just GTFO. Bring your environmental impact back to Australia.
