The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

Thousands of individuals from foreign countries walk unchallenged across our southern border every day. We don't know who they are, where they come from, or their intentions. It is an invasion by definition, and our government condones it.

You had me agreeing. Until that last ridiculous part.

Saying that the government condones it is a wee bit too strong. Fact is, they aren't doing nearly enough to stop it, or to support those responsible for stopping it.

We don't need immigration reform. We need enforcement.

(Although a lot of people don't want to believe it) there are literally millions of illegal immigrants that crossed the Mexican border on foot that work as landscapers, inside of restaurant kitchens, and as housekeepers across the country.

Here are some simple facts I have collected through speaking with some of my wife's coworkers (all illegals, all either don't speak English or speak very bad English, all crossed illegally)..They are not paid in cash. They get a paycheck and taxes are taken out. They have fake social security cards and other important documents. 99% of them are sending a good portion of their paychecks back home to their families to build homes or businesses. They plan to return to 'the homeland' when their homes are built. A lot of them work 2 (minimum wage) jobs, pretty much non-stop every day. There are soooooooooo many more than you could ever imagine. Well, I just assume this because in the 2 restaurants where my wife was employed every single Mexican in the kitchen was an illegal! And because I live in a small town in Michigan I assume it is just as common or even more so everywhere else. Her previous employer was Red Robin and they are a publicly traded company listed on the NASDAQ. Her current employer is a small Restaurant chain in just 2 states with maybe 8 total restaurants, but the parent company is also publicly traded.

My wife was asked to work at another location last week for 1 day to train some new workers. When I picked her up at 11:30pm she asked if we could give a ride to this older guy who also worked there. He was probably in his late 40s or early 50s and had a bicycle parked outside the restaurant. It didn't fit in my car so I told him that I couldn't give him a ride. He said he could just leave his bike at the restaurant and catch a bus the next day. I was curious as to how far the guy lived away and why getting a ride was so important to him. I asked him if he lived in the vicinity (thinking I might be saving him a 10 minute bike ride, big deal). He said it takes him 1 hour and 30 minutes to bike home!!! To make a long story short he is here illegally and told me he was deported about 5 years ago and just walked right back across the Texas border. He said you pay an expert who knows the ins and outs of crossing and he guides the team of illegals across. It takes many days of non-stop walking, and sleeping on the ground.

The guy said he probably has sent a half a million pesos ($50,000) back home already.

It's a major demographic shift when you consider most Americans think of immigration they get an image of Ellis Island from the great wave of immigration 100 years ago. It's been happening since the 1980s but it took a long time to spread to areas far beyond the border states and major ports of entry.

You don't need to go to a website when you can see illegal immigrants ready to cross the Rio Grande from McAllen-Reynosa bridge like I did.

We don't need immigration reform. We need enforcement.

If this is not enough enforcement, you're free to petition your government to raise your taxes and/or increase the federal deficit in order to expand this important function of the federal government. That is, of course, unless you're one of those who believes our federal government is already too large and spends too much and overtaxes us and runs worrisome deficits. Which is it going to be?

Lately, even the Indian restaurants employ illegals from mexi/central/south america in their kitchens. In a few years, if they're smart and enterprising (which I'm sure many are) they could open their own Indian restaurants and drive the actual Indians right outta business.

If want to ignore the illegal immigration problem and tons of drugs passing the border, that's ok because it's fun to play pretend. No matter how many people are temporarily apprehended or amount of drugs seized, plenty more make across the border.

The total amount spent on the Border Patrol must be a joke compared to size of the Federal government overall budget.

The real problem is that it's a very long border between two countries who are quite unequal in per capita income so there's always pressure to head north. You should say enforcement alone won't stop enough people unless we want spend a great deal more and even tthat probably won't be enough.

I agree with that entirely. Enforcement alone, no matter how high tech you make it and how much money you throw at it, won't overcome the essential disparities you mention. Meaning - enforcement alone is not the answer, and additional approaches which complement stiff enforcement are called for. All to say- Pooky's original point of reform not being needed, enforcement being sufficient - makes no sense to me.

Also Chinese restaurants.

I haven't noticed that around here. All the Chinese takeout joints I go to still have Chinese (or, I should say East Asian since I can't visually tell them apart) people working the kitchens.

I have actually heard that some of the "Chinese" restaurants are actually run by Malays.
