I really liked the old format of the forums as it was easy to do everything. I'll work to get used to this of course but change isn't needed just for change sake Lol

It probably wasn't just for change's sake. I can't speak to the technical details, as I'm not an administrator of this board, but usually changes like this aren't merely cosmetic. Instead, they're often the result of a software upgrade, which may have been required for additional features, to correct a problem or to be able to maintain support from the software manufacturer. Sometimes, if the software needs to be upgraded, the original theme elements aren't fully compatible with the new software, and it's easier to add old theme elements to the new system, rather than try to mangle the new software into fitting into the old theme. Odds are, one of those was the root cause for the changeover, as opposed to Captain Ewok just deciding one day that it would be a good idea to move the furniture around.

has anyone else noticed this new "rank the post" thing? never saw this before..and i really dont like it. i can see it getting out of hand due to stupidity...honestly..do we need to say what we think of the post/poster? i only realized it when i saw a few of our cdn posts with a big red -1 on them..and was like #######..then i hoverd over it and the signs and i see "vote post up or down"....

It is most definitely going to get out of hand - there are many cliques on VJ and they are going to have af ield day with this system.

Trust me, I will remember how it looked and I still won't like this.

For me, I can only see one post per screen, each post box is 6 inches high - of around 11 inches of viewing space.

In order for you to see what I see, you would have to come to our house and look at this screen of pale grey and pale blue frames - spread across this large computer screen, where everything runs in to the next thing. It is not aesthetically pleasing to me and never will be, even in a month. But hey, that's me, some people might like it.

That's how I feel about it, exactly. I will remember the 'old' VJ and will continue to dislike this one for many months to come.

I'm not exactly grooving on this thing yet. I need time to adjust. But I am having some problems ie it deleted my funky grand canyon picture on my profile and I can't find it to get it back. the avatars are totally different, at least when I last checked. I can't download any picture because there isn't one of my pix that satisfies the size issue and requirement so they are rejected.

But at times I can't find the link to posts when I search it on the search engine. That's frustrating. For example, Janauary CR1 thread I started and now when I search it, I can't get there and it defaults me back to the main menu. The same does not hold true when I search Dec filers in the exact same way. So in order for me to access the Jan CR1 thread, I'm left with going into my profile and finding my posts and accessing it from there.

And when I head to Igor's list to check timelines etc, I find the list has morphed and is bigger so the page isn't centred ie names are off to the right requiring a slight scrolling left etc

Just annoying things but they are affecting me functionally at this stage.

Hmm... I think I am 'ok' with the new look, except that I too have a wide screen, so everything is soooo stretched out. My eyeballs have to move a lot farther to read stuff. That means VJ fatigue will come quicker. That makes me sad. :(

Also, there's no easy way to add youtube stuff now (unless you just add it under the media link), but there is for Twitter? eh? lol

I was noticing today that profile pages now seem a lot easier to read and navigate. Before I never used the comment feature because it was really weird and tucked away. Someone could comment and you wouldn't even notice it for weeks! Now you can't miss it. So I give that feature a thumbs up.

As far as the actual forums, I'm finding that the wide-screen computer and all the text is starting to bother me. My husband has a really big monitor, so I find myself getting lost in the long sea of text. Maybe it will look better on my laptop...

All I ever use is my lap top...course I also have that "mini" by Dell, so maybe that's why it looks good still. I can't imagine the wide screen. ( had one back home, I sure miss it!)

It is different that's for sure. I just hope VJ isn't like FB and changes every two weeks!!

Oh..and that rating thing? Yeah, I can see it getting out of hand. Maybe that's why I tend to stick with all the Canucks!! It's very hard sometimes to say what you really want to say, in a written form, and people can't hear the "tone" of your voice, so sometimes some posts could sound like bad advice, ( mind you, I have read some loo-loo's ) but the advice isn't bad, just misinterpreted. I feel like in this forum, we can be more understanding, and try to read between the lines before we answer. ( then again..sometimes it's just bad advice! *giggles*)

*standing back and waiting for all the minuses*....Oh!! I wonder, if someone has lots of "negative" reports on their post, does that mean they get a talking too or something?

I miss my old avatar but apparently it isn't available here so I had to find something that I could resize and use instead. So - meet Bear and Lion! I might try some other ones as well - but I really did like my old avatar :( ( not that I don't like Lion and Bear too! :D )

You're safe, VJ isn't going to change every 2 weeks nor for a much longer time after that! This is basically a software upgrade to the next version and there are a lot of new features. It has taken Captain Ewok a long time to get the site to where he could migrate it over and there is still a lot to be done. He is still tweaking problems and features so if you have suggestions go to the Site Discussions Page and add them there. There is so much information for him to handle all at once that he might not realize a certain issue is an issue unless it is brought to his attention.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Bear and Lion are adorable! I am feeling HUGE envy at their obvious getting along-ness! I have been following your advice though and doing the playing and the treat thing -- I walk around the house with a pocket full of cat treats. I also ordered some Feliway online from Amazon. I got the room diffuser and the spray for 25$ all together. Thanks for all your advice, K...

Re: the new site, all this change all at once stresses me out!!!! ;) I'm sure it'll grow on me -- I don't get the rating of the post thing or for that matter, the rating of us as member? I am neutral at the moment and not sure how that will change in the future.

:D

After two days I find I am just now getting used to the "new look." I am not finding it as harsh on the eyes. Not sure about the rating feature though, don't like the feeling of being evaluated.

I really don't mind the new format. To be perfectly honest, it's not really anything new or drastic. Some graphic changes and layout changes really don't amount to much. The quoting format is a bit annoying, but nothing much. What I loathe about the new format is how slow it is. I know that it isn't a function of the new layout, but the lingering effects of the upgrade are annoying. Also, the thing that is more annoying is there seems to be quite a few people who are noticeably absent, or posting considerably less. :(

So, I already hate the reputation option on posts. Had to go back and view my posts made to see where I got negative reviews. Honestly? I almost think it should show publicly who clicked where, to make people second-guess whether or not they wish to click a review on that particular post.
