Hey VJ peeps,

Here's a little history on my husband (beneficiary) and I (petitioner).

He's from Dominica and I'm a USC living in US Virgin Islands.

  • 1)Became officially BF & GF March 2007.
    2)Engaged Jan 13, 2008.
    3)Married May 22,2008.
    4)Our son was born Jan. 4, 2009.

I just wanted to show (well not literally) you guys what we planned on presenting as proof of a bonafide marriage.

  • Marriage Certificate (duh)
    hi5 messages from 2008
    FB messages from 2008
Affidavit from my mom (saying that we've been together from 2007, we are always talking on the phone, communicating basically everyday 2-3 times a day, our marriage is real, etc.)
Affidavit from a witness at the civil wedding (either his mom, dad, sister, or the judge) *No wedding pics. No camera*
2 Pics of my husband and I in 2007 (no time stamp)
Pictures of my husband, son, and myself in Dominica with all of his family (OOdles of pictures)
Wire transfers (showing that he's been financially supporting his son from Jan '09 to present)
1 Letter he sent me in 2008 (with some old pictures of him)
Receipts of fed exes that we've sent each other
2 Flight Itineraries From USVI to Dominica(1 before I had my son, 1 when I had my son)
AND THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A 14MNTH OLD SON TOGETHER

We don't have a significant amount of phone records because we either used phone cards or the MAGIC JACK thingy. (Also because it'll be a pain in the but to get records from 2008 now). I mean who thinks at the time when they're dating someone that "all of these messages are gonna be important let's save them".

Is this enough proof you think? Do you see any problems with this?

Did you consider DNA testing, proving that your husband-to-be is the father of your child?

Just kidding. I also think that a marriage certificate alone is proof that you are married, and a child together is already more than enough of a good thing.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

OMG ! You're crazy! I almost had a minor heart attack in my cubicle. I mean it's all ridiculous to me. I mean we're married, we have a child, and my husband isn't some criminal or terrorists. We just want to be physically together as a family. We've been together for bout 3 years.

I'd reconsider the binder as they'll just throw it out. Use a binder clip and an appropriately sized envelope for mailing. They are going to build a two-hole punched at the top government file, so no sense overwhelming them. I'd just send the marriage certificate and the child's birth certificate along with a few photos printed several to a page in color on plain full sheets of paper.

You'll need all the other appropriate supporting docs, I mean the above for evidence of relationship. Really, you listed major overkill for the petition stage and the binder will be trashed.

At the I-130 Petition stage all we provided was a copy of our Marriage Contract (certificate) and a bank statement from each of our 2 joint bank accounts (one in the Philippines and one in the US).

The chat/phone logs and other stuff like that was a ll prepared for the interview stage but never asked for.

FWIW, the child doesn't prove anything about your relationship beyond the fact that you had sex at least once. Doesn't hurt to provide documents of the child's existence but you've already had to prove the parental relationship for the baby's CRBA & US Passport, right?

Bob 4 Anna..

I think having a child prove more than you had sex once!.. In fact.. if that was the case.. why would you mind to go to all Immigration Process?
