For those who don't know. Universities that are accredited must require that the graduate meets diversity, cultural, oral, writing, arts, science general education requirements.

If the person graduated from a community college, that's a different story. Heck, an associate degree graduate has less experience in writing compared to a bachelor graduate.

One more thing...I'd like to also mention that leadership is a skill that is learned through a cycle of experiences. You can't really teach leadership through schooling.

Isn't that one of the reason why a recent graduate isn't placed in a senior management position. If everybody could learn leadership skills in school, that'll be great. But, it's a skill that cannot be learned through schooling alone.

What does it say when a leader is one that has sued the school system to lower standards. Standards that are to blame for the failing rate of the school system. He sued because he couldn't make a minimum needed to graduate. He lost but the school system got rid of it and he then got a diploma. Now even with that minimum gone they are having a harder time. Maybe it is because of a leader like this and the mindset that is the problem.

It means that it was said by an American head of a school board. Someone is surprised? Ask him to name a country that begins with "U". There is a 70% chance he will say "Yugoslavia".

If it is about American education...Yes. But Democrats have nothing to brag about. American schools are far more embarrassing than health care, which is actually great with a flawed payment system.

I do need to say that today cellphones, microchips, etc...are far more advanced than previous generations. Their complexities have increased so many folds. Building them require multiple layer of silicons, pFET, and nFETs compacted together so very closely. The larger the density of these things, the more problem solving someone has to make. You have clock skews with more gates (timing problem), parasitic capacitances, leakage, etc...Someone in the 70s would have no idea how to approach at solving a problem of that capacity.

We can't simply say that education has plummeted negatively.

For better or worse it is self government.

At one time Schools in America were pretty good, I don't think the down fall can be blamed on local school board elections.

Speaking from experience, home country ranked first in the world for their education, the school board is a problem. Over there the state's Department of Education administers the schools, which comprises of professionals that are actually educated in the various fields taught, including how to best educate a child. We like to call it a smaller yet more efficient government. You know - 1,500 staff versus the approx 80 staff times the 100 counties - as per your state NC. They like to literally practice smaller governments; which is evidently working out pretty well for them.

Nevertheless, how would you like it if I was part of a board that could come tell you what to do. Furthermore, could influence the tools you have access to and how you do your job. How effective would you say I would be if I made decisions having no knowledge or experience in your line of work? I am sure you will say that this occurs in the private sector anyway, as it does. The only difference is that in the private sector, the buck stops with the board and executives, not the person on the line. Whereas, when it comes to schools, regardless of the decision's made by the board, its the teachers and principals that are the scapegoats. So if you have dipshits or lawyers, as many school boards do, the school system suffers.

In terms of hiring a leader who brings failure instead of success is a disappointment, and should be fired for that reason. What most poster here do not realize is that a leader has certain traits that even the educated mind do not have..

Not true at all. While being a charismatic leader is more of a skill, education goes a long way in effective management and leadership. Some of the worst managers I have had are one who have 'learned it on the job', with many moving into managerial roles simply because they know the right people. Much like anything, acquiring an education alone will not make you a leader or good at it. You need the education, as well as the experience of dealing with people. Education guides a leader on how to best approach various things.

A hell of a lot of shitty managers I have dealt with (many here) are a product of going from high school, to college, to a professional role and never actually having worked a hard day in their life. Furthermore, many had mommy and daddy pay for everything so their outlook on life is bizarre. Not to mention the pathetic way they treat others who are not in white collar roles.
