Hello :)

So I'm pretty confident I know the answer to this qn, but Tony wanted me to double check, just to be sure.

We're moving at the end of March back to Iowa. At that time we will be filing my AOS, but this has raised a few qns. Here's the basis for them:

We want to buy a house but it's a bit hard from Texas :P so first, we're looking at renting a place in Iowa so that we can look around and investigate options etc so, depending on how long the process takes (I know some take a while) we will need to change our address twice. Once for the move back to Iowa, then again when we buy a house.

Also, when I moved here we opened bank accounts etc and I was sent cheques. Obviously these cheques have my Texas address on them, and they were prior to getting married so are also in my maiden name.

So the qns are:

1. Will the address and name on the cheque cause an issue? I.e. will they have an issue that the cheque is Texas address but forms are Iowa? Or do they not even look at it?

2. Do you think it would be best to put Tony's parents address (to which we already receive mail and they will be living about 20 mins away from us when we move back to Iowa) as our mailing address on the forms?

3. When showing evidence at the interview of a lease to a DIFFERENT address to that on the form, will that cause an issue?

I personally think that people move all the time and probably don't bother getting new cheques, and some people don't even HAVE cheques so other people could write the cheque for them so ... what do you think?

The moving thing... I don't think putting our renting address on the form will be a problem because i'm really hoping that AOS is completed before the 6 month lease would be up, but also, changing addresses several times would be annoying. I know i can put a "care of" address but on the form does that mean i need to put his parents names in the "care of" box of the form? Or can i just put the address starting in the "care of" box?

Thanks in advance :D

Hi Vanessa,

1. I don't think the address on the check matters, as long as it's the correct amount and payable to USCIS.

2. I think you can put down whatever address is best and then change it later. We did that for our K1 when my husband was living in New York, planning to move to Indy.

3. Not sure about this one, perhaps others can.

Good luck!

Tina

The check we sent had completely different info on it. It had my parents' address (haven't lived there since I was 18), and my maiden name on it. No issues for them to get the money out of it. ;)

I wouldn't leave the Texas address on the forms if you are moving to Iowa - if they set an interview, it would be in Texas! (+biometrics too)

Also, changing addresses is notoriously a bad process, as frequently you don't get mail from them at the new place, and then you're hosed when you don't get the GC or you don't get the interview notice... If possible, I would put your Iowa address, and put off moving until the process is finished with. I'm sure all of your ducks are in a row, could only be 3-4 months, plenty of time to look around, find a good place and take your time with the rest of the (home buying) paperwork.

I'm not following you. Your check has already been accepted and deposited. Nobody is going to be looking at it again.

You've already applied for AOS so what forms are you talking about sending? The address change?

You've already been transferred to California for processing, so no interview to explain things or show relationship evidence.

Your greencard will likely be in your mailbox by the end of March. If you want to have the address changed before it's mailed, I would change now it to the more permanent parent's address and check back in 2 weeks and 4 weeks to make sure they have the address change. Change now so it't not last minute when the GC is ready to be issued. They mess up address changes from time to time. Then once you're settled in a house, change to your permanent address. The sponsor of the I-864 has to do an address change too....so that's the immigrant and the sponsor with different forms. One is online, the other is mailed but I've forgotten which since we did it a few months back.

So the qns are:

1. Will the address and name on the cheque cause an issue? No

I.e. will they have an issue that the cheque is Texas address but forms are Iowa?Won't matter. Or do they not even look at it?They'll look to be sure it is a US bank, payable to them and for the proper amount.

2. Do you think it would be best to put Tony's parents address (to which we already receive mail and they will be living about 20 mins away from us when we move back to Iowa) as our mailing address on the forms?

I'd use the correct address (where ever you live).

3. When showing evidence at the interview of a lease to a DIFFERENT address to that on the form, will that cause an issue?

I would use the correct address so you don't have to worry about this.

I personally think that people move all the time and probably don't bother getting new cheques, and some people don't even HAVE cheques so other people could write the cheque for them so ... what do you think?

From personal experience (and from other folk's on VJ) I'd simply list the address where you're living - and file the appropriate COA (AR-11/I-865) as needed, as often as needed.

Ummm I think you looked at the wrong persons profile info/timeline... 'cause none of the above applies to me.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. :D

Check issue solved :) Will just send the ones I have :)

Address, we'll just put the new address that we'll be renting and cross all fingers and toes that it's approved before we need to move again.

Thanks all :D

LOL That would explain why I wasn't following the plot. I somehow got on the wrong page.
