Houston man accused of impersonating Army general

By PAIGE HEWITT

2010 Houston Chronicle

Feb. 6, 2010, 12:38PM

A man was charged Friday, accused of falsely presenting himself as a U.S. Army general, including being photographed in a highly decorated general's uniform at an election celebration for Houston's new mayor.

Michael P. McManus, 44, of Houston, was charged with five federal misdemeanors, accusing him of unlawfully wearing an unauthorized military uniform and prestigious combat medals, the Department of Justice said.

McManus served in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1987, his highest rank being private first class.

Authorities said McManus wore some of the U.S. Army's highest awards for bravery, including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, as well as honorable insignia for pilots.

McManus also is accused of wearing two British military awards. He was photographed in the decorated uniform at a Dec. 12 gathering at the George R. Brown Convention Center celebrating Annise Parker's mayoral victory. One of the charges — wearing and possessing certain specified military awards for bravery — carries a maximum punishment of one year in federal prison and a fine of $100,000.

The other four counts carry a maximum sentence of six months and a $5,000 fine.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

A year and a half in jail for a nobody wearing a uniform at a photo opportunity.

Don't know why anyone would want to do that, but seems like a waste of everyone's time. Surely there are more than enough "real" crimes out there to be bothering with this tosh.

true dat ... they could have collected 200 illegals to deport for the same amount of effort taken ...

Isn't he a little young to be a general? Who would be fooled by a general with a goatee?

Remember this historic mayor?

"Parker is Houston's second female mayor, and the first openly gay mayor of a U.S. city with over a million residents"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annise_Parker

Here's some more on the "general".

Within hours of all the milblogs sending out the alert, we had his name. We then found his Friendster profile, which now seems to have disappeared. But don't worry, Mikey. We have it archived. Then we found a literal metric crapton worth of stuff about this guy including a Facebook profile under a different name where he is a Buddhist monk and pictures of him with "Steven Seagal". Also my beating around the bush of him being gay turned out to be true. He couldn't be any more proud of the fact he is gay if he had it tattooed across his forehead. Consider yourselves lucky you didn't see the pictures from his Friendster profile.

TSO at This Ain't Hell has done a great job of blogging everything as it happened unlike me who read the emails with it all and could do nothing but sit back and laugh. Check out the following links to get an idea of what kind of person we're dealing with.

True enough. It isn't like he collected a General's pension or something. He sounds like a pretty pathetic guy. (highest rank of PFC?) I would send him home with a note to his mother.

I saw this story on our local TV news channel last night. They had the full weight of the FBI out beating the bushes to nab this dangerous criminal. I wonder how much it cost the taxpayer to remove this menace to society from our streets? About as ridiculous as forking out $200+ million to try Khalid Sheik Mohammed in NYC when he is already rotting in Gitmo.

I'm about like Natty...for the cost of this lame effort the feds could have run a clean sweep of the Home Depot parking lots and several other well known areas of Houston where illegal aliens openly hang out in mass soliciting illegal day work. Deport 'em before they breed and the taxpayer saves billions of $$$.

No wonder we are trillions in debt and digging a deeper hole to throw Chinese money into.

But they gave a us hint....

We need a SpecOp here and we need you to do it. Tomorrow go to the Home Depot and hand out war medals to the Illegal aliens, pin them to their T-shirts and say they will help them get an extra $3 per day. (You can order them from the "US Cavalry" catalog online. Go heavy on the purple hearts,) then call the FBI!!!!! We will nab them dead to rights! Yeeee haaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
