Hi VJ folks,

I got my EAD card in the morning of Jan. 11, 09 and applied for SSN in the afternoon ( the same day). The lady from SSA who got my application gave me a ref. number to justify that I came in and applied for an SSN on that day... Two weeks after, I called the local SSA office where I applied my SSN and the lady I talked to said my application is still pending because they're still waiting for the verification from DHS and the SSN is only available for me once they got a reply from them..Now my questions are:

1. What do you think , why DHS took so long to reply/verify SSA questions?

2. Do you think it is a good idea for me to call DHS abut that matter?

Please help me...I am not really in rush but Im just wondering here why others can get their SSN in two weeks...

My husband and I are planning to file tax jointly hopefully the end of the month.

Thank you and Have a great day everyone.... MABUHAY!

Something's wrong in the SAVE database. Probably your name.

Check your EAD name, compare it to the initial visa name in the passport.

If it doesn't match, you've a potential problem there.

Go back to SSA Office - tell them to find you in the SAVE database (after you fill out another application, yuppers) -

then - if they can't find your EAD name, can they find your visa name? if so - use the VISA name, today.

Change it with SSA AFTER it's been issued.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Yep we have the same problem. We were told that the POE officer wrote her name wrong and so things do not match up.

usually there is no need to call, because they will call you if they see a problem anyway.

the delay in verification is usually technical (updates on info on their systems are slow) but sometimes too the verification (ex. finding out if you are who you claim to be/have a namesa etc)

no need to worry :)

Hi,

Thanks for the replies folks...Well, maybe you are right...When I applied for my AOS and EAD, I am using my married name , the same name I used when I apply for an SSN ...Well, the name appeared on the visa of my passport was under my maiden name since I was a K-1, but now, I have been approved for EAD..don't they change it on the database?

The answer to #2 is no at this point.

Without knowing why the SSA office says they can't verify your status it's hard to tell if it should take this long.

The verification process is a 3 step process. The first is the initial verification while you are in the office. If that doesn't verify they then send a secondary electronic verification request. The SSA office should get a response back on that within a week. If the response is that immigration wants to see a copy of your immigration document, a copy of the front and back of the document is mailed along with form G-845. Figure on that taking another month.

I would ask the office why they can't verify your status and at which step they are at.

If they cleared the application today, your SSN record should be established by tomorrow. Then you can go into any Social Security office with ID (passport) to obtain your SSN. Still will need to wait to receive the card in the mail and should have it within 14 days.
