As someone who took their two dogs from the UK to LA I would say you have to do it! Whats a 9 hour flight when it comes to the love of your dogs and the loyalty they give to you?!?

Oh, and you mentioned you had to take them as Cargo cause they are too big. Did you check into BA? I took my dogs with them and they are by far the cheapest airline as pets go as excess baggage instead.

Ladyb, we checked out BA but they do not fly to where we have to go from Manchester, if we do use them we will have to have two flights and that would mean approx 13/14 hours for the dogs. Only option would be to hire a van and drive them to London!! that would also mean their day would be about 14 hours.

We have to fly from Manchester into Sanford - direct flight, I think we may be able to go into Orlando direct with AA but not sure.

With the Sanford flights, are you capped at a low luggage weight?

Btw, Virgin do a great flight from Manc to MCO

The same thing happened to us when we flew our dog over. We booked her as excess baggage on a United Airlines flight out of Heathrow to Chicago in 2003. We never did get charged for her! As you said though, we would have paid anyway. I also brought my 12 year old cat out a year later and she is having the time of her life here! That was with BMI out of manchester to Chicago. Cost aound 300 GBP.

Maggie :star:

I bought my Staffordshire Bull Terrier from Newcastle to the States, we booked her through the travel agents when we booked our flights and were told it would cost £300 and that we would be charged at check-in. Anyway, long story short, for some reason they didn't cahrge us at all so she flew for free...yay!! Mind you I wouldn't have left her behind no matter what the cost.

Well at least good news on the doggie side.

Have been talking to my dogsitter in Germany this morning and was told that my sister will take my dog to get trained(she was abused when she was a puppy and is terrified of strangers so she acts like shes dangerous, never hurt anyone though) and then she will keep her when I come back here for good by the end of the year.

At least that works out!!!!!!!!!

My sister was just playing one of her headgames with me putting me on a guilt trip because I decided to come back to the US and leave her behind in Germany.........

If you can bring them I would.

I brought my 11 year old dog with me on the flight. She did great.

I think she would have died if I left her, she's to close to me :D

I also brought my animals with me (large dog and two cats).

I would not have gone without them.....but hey, that's just me :D

As for costs, I used Lufthansa and paid 330 Euros for all three (dog in cargo, cats in cabin). I did hire a van and drove to Frankfurt to spare them another connecting flight, which worked out well....so maybe driving to London would not be such a bad thing if the choices for the transatlantic flight were better that way :)

Good luck,

CW

bring those snappers....they are your friends....

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

They're coming with us, trouble is at the speed our petition is going, they could both be old and senile by the time we get the "good to go" (bit like I will be ;) )
