This does not compute, this is the American system.

How can a freaking ultrasound cost THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS???

And I know, from my miscarriage, this will likely be an internal. If they are going to violate me that way, they should pay me!

Ya know, I got really freaked by the lists Babies r us and other stores puts out, what they recommend a new mother have. Realistically, you do not need to buy nearly as much stuff as they recommend. There were a lot of things I was happy to get used also. The things I would absolutely not buy used are a car seat (I am prolly a little #######, but I never trusted someone to tell me the truth whether the carseat had been in an accident previously) and a breast pump.

I WANT ANOTHER BABY NOW!!! Damn you pregnant people :P

I'm just now putting together a spreadsheet on what I can expect to pay for the essentials. I'z NOT HAPPY!!!! Raven, let me know how ebay/craigslist looks, OK?

Anyone have any other good sites to check out for baby things?

I should start putting mine together too. I told hubby my mom brought all five of us up with no crib, no stollers, no car seat (it wasn't law back then)...why do we need all these things? All we need is a sling, but he would have none of it, lol.

I'm doing the sling thing too.

Remember when we were kids, riding in the box of pickup trucks? You'd probably get charged with child endangerment, now, but we sure thought it was fun!

The thing that's difficult for me is finding out what's really is a need and what is a want. The car seat I agree would have to be new.

Ha ha!

Valerie, you're one lucky preggo! My nausea is lessening, thank goodness, but it still distracts me from my work. Also, I'm majorly breaking out like pubescent teen--on my T-zone face, back...and now chest!

Hi Everyone,

Good idea for a home-based business!

Um, this is gender-neutral, isn't it?

ValA- Yeah, more gender neutral things are needed, indeed! Care to start a business there, Val?

Btw..Cute outfit....But umm..What's the deal with the green "S"?

Babies aren't expensive, it's the parents that are expensive :hehe:

Trail-I agree...

It it the parents that choose what the spend on the baby, not what the baby chooses to spend on the parents...;)

HA. I just got off the phone with the dr's office. Not expensive? HOLY #######. For the first visit:

$52 - $228 office visit

$30 preg test

$300 ultrasound (may be done at this visit)

$800-$1000 additional lab tests (if necessary)

And if I was in Mississauga right now, I could just run across the street to my dr, have the appt, get scheduled for the ultrasound, have all my blood etc taken for the lab tests, all for nada. But I don't dare go home until I see a dr to make sure travelling is safe, due to certain complications I am having.

I'm going to go have a nap and try to get over the shock of this.

ValA- Oh my gosh! You need to find another doctor.....What a rip-off for those quotes!

Either that, or get some affordable health insurance, asap!

Autumn-I agree, no need to buy all that everyone else recommends!

I just went with the "basics" and that was good enough for our family.... :star:

I got some stuff new, and some stuff used...So could save some money there..

But I agree like you...you cannot buy a car seat used, for safety sake! And likewise for any other things that are of safety and healthy concerns...buy new instead of used...for piece of mind there...

On that note...I got my carseat/stroller combo for $250 or so.....Good deal there!

Everyone-My favourite places to shop for new baby items (in order of personal preferance, and where to get the best deals/low prices):

1) Walmart 2) Dollar General and Family Dollar 3) Babies R Us 4) K-Mart 5) Target

Off the top of my head...From my experience, Here are the "top 10 baby basics/essentials" for what you need for the first 1-3 months...

1) Diapers and Wipes

2) Formula (Or if Breastfeeding...Breastmilk...)

3) Carseat

4) Clothes

5) Crib

7) Bouncy Seat/Swing and Toys

8) Grooming Kit and Medical Kit

9) Towels and Washcloths

10) Baby Bathtub

Anything else I can't think of at the moment, but feel free to ask me more about baby items too.....

Hope this helps too. Good luck with baby stuff shopping too.

Ant

P.S. Hope you don't mind...But I added all of you "preggers and babies vj users" to my "friends" list too...Nice to be able to talk to you all about preggy and baby stuff too!

It is a Saskatchewan Roughriders outfit

Hubby has health insurance, but for some reason they don't have me on it. Trying to get that straightened out, but guessing that won't happen before my dr's appointment. Anyway, am already pregnant, so have a 'pre-existing' condition and no private insurance will cover me for that now.

I keep forgetting about the friends thing on here! Thanks for the add!

Are you serious? What kind of a retarded rule is that? Like, since when is having a baby like cancer??? GAH. Goodluck with finding a reasonable doctor who would be more interested in doing his job as a doctor than ripping you off :(

Oh, I think the dr is reasonable, really, it's the private health insurance here that is a ripoff. I need to confirm that this is a pre-existing condition, but I've been told that they will view it that way now. Canada's health care system is far superior. I never had a problem getting good health care, and it was free! :crying:

I just saw a recall on strollers and cribs on TV this morning. Some Graco stroller models have snapped off baby's fingers. :o:crying: Can't remember the name of the crib that breaks apart and kills babies. Anyway, my point is, you'll want to research the brand and model of each item for recalls.
