I heard this on the radio today and thought, "So if the definition of 'working' is letting someone 'almost' blow up a plane... then what is the definition of a failure?"

I also liked Obama's new idea of having more Air Marshals on board. Yeah, that's going to help them stop sneaking stuff through the checkpoints at international locations. Good call! More "hope" we can believe in.

So just being on a list of people associated with terrorist activities does not cause any additional security measures? What a clown.... based on these statements, she is NOT QUALIFIED for the postion she has been appointed to....

With her logic, one would not be moved to the no fly list until a clear threat was specifically identified...the father had already indicated a threat existed... culpable neglegence clear and simple... If I called the police and told them my son was threatening to do something against the kids at school and the police did not do anything to prevent the act from taking place and my son went in and shot some students or blew up the school, then the police department would be in big trouble and folks would lose their jobs...

She should lose her job ASAP... management all starts at the top.... the fact that she is downplaying her departments culpability makes it all the more obvious that the overall system of interdepartmental communication/information sharing remains at the levels that failed to prevent 911. We knew that the people that commited the 911 attack were associated with terrorism, yet we did the same thing with them.. allowed them on planes without even an interview.

Plain and simple, the folks on that plane got lucky.... Christmas day was not thier day to die.... DHS had no impact on the fact that they are still alive... Obama needs to hold those in charge of security, accountable for their inaction/neglegence... starting with this idiot!

Topic of conversation on WPR this morning with the title, Should Religion and Ethnicity be part of airline passenger profiling. Quite an argument between two experts on this subject, but kind of left it that the Dutch should be scanning all their passengers before boarding.

They sure scanned the hell out of me whenever I travel, can't knock them on that, but it only takes one to cause a disaster. Maybe next flight will take six instead of three hours to board.

The system didn't work... the courageous efforts of the passengers & crew averted the distaster (and the fact that the bomb didn't work as intended was of course key). With that being said the typical/ nonsensical ramblings from the right wing peanut gallery adds little value to the conversation. Granted I don't agree with everything that the "bumbling idiot" said about the matter but empty rhetoric from the usual suspects doesn't help.

The reality is that homeland security measures have improved (and the Bush administration deserves credit for this) but further improvements (like full body scanners at airports) are necessary. I fly a lot & quite frankly find some of the security measures annoying, but if these measures prevent terrorists from getting onboard then I will gladly endure the inconvenience.
