I could go one step further and discuss why so many people are in section 8 housing here but that is definitely way over the heads of certain individuals. Individuals who cannot even see how illegal aliens take jobs from others and suppress wages. Individuals who refuse to analyze the differences in countries that have a much high standard of living and high wages.

Who do you think illegal aliens impact the most? Certainly not scientist. Clue. Its two words. First word is a unit of people and the second word is a number that follows on from 7.

Apparently some here would have us believe illegal aliens are the best thing since slice bread. Too bad no other first world country has this view.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Actually I miss being near the action.......my wife doesn't. I lived in Vallejo CA for 6 months in an apartment that wasn't section 8 but nearby. It was fun. Prior to me moving in my door was crow barred to death etc.

When she came, we had to move :( I miss the nice kids smoking weed on the steps leading to my door when I would get home from work.

YES YES i'm a cheapskate....I was like $1500 for a two bedroom? Whatever I'll pay my $1000 and live in the den.....

Rubbish! Section 8 folk are good honest law abiding citizens and would not hurt a fly. You could sleep with your doors open there.

The kids were not smoking pot. It was merely a science experiment on the affects of hallucinogens.

It's fun to call people hypocrites, 'cause it can make people feel better about themselves, but people on this board are pretty smart and I think can accept the reality of human nature of not wanting an undesirable situation living next door to them. A few examples include:

Garbage Dump: We all need to use it, but no one chooses to live next to one.

Cell Phone Tower: Would you volunteer to have this monstrosity in your back yard? Chances are, you complain when you hit a dead zone and cant call ahead for that pizza or tell wifey its her turn to pick up the kids.

Prison: We all want the bad guys and perverts off the street, yet who votes to pay more taxes to build prisons, or buys a house next door to one.

Homeless Shelter: We claim to want to help the homeless, but don't you dare build a new shelter near me and lower my property value.

Electricity Generating Plant: Ok, you get the idea. :bonk:

Its called NIMBY syndrome, and we ALL claim it at various times in our lives when some undesirable situation pops up and threatens to impact the quality of life in each of our little corners of the world. So why do you wonder that the Libs don't want Sect 8 folks and their alternative and sometimes shady lifestyles setting up residence in THEIR/YOUR community? You already know. Class Dismissed.

Peace.

Very good point but it does not address the hypocrisy. If I said I loved and cared for XYZ and accused you of hating them, yet refused to ever associate with them, I would be a hypocrite. The great American white flight was a perfect example of hypocrisy.

"Everyone is equal ... We all behave the same.... Their crime rates are only due to their circumstance or racism...." Great! So why don't you go live with them?

A hell of a lot of the younger folk that are poor here have a pathetic attitude. Unfortunately the minority that are genuine, go without because of the others. Why should I help a 26 year old mother with 4 kids from 4 fathers?

Our work is having a buy a present for a disadvantaged family thingy, with my team allocated a family with seven kids. The second I found out that the family had not lost a job, did not have an illness and did not have some sort of unfortunate circumstance, I refused to participate. I'll be damned if some stay at home ------ gets anything from me. I'll give someone genuine a generous gift but not someone who is just working the system.

There is no black and white answer, dude, so you will only frustrate yourself trying to force one. It all goes back to corruption and NIMBY. I would call it lies for profit before hypocrisy. Someone is making financial gain. Follow the money. Look at Al Gore, the first (fraudulent) Green Billionaire. Every man has his price to sell out, and then NIMBY is all convoluted up in there too. :star:

section 8 housing will attract the unemployed and diseased ... i don't want my neighbor being some washed out old man, recently laid off, with a bad back and gout and an anger problem... of course we oppose it.

Your alley has to much traffic! Speaking of traffic.

Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.

if you're hungry thru your own actions, you are hungry for a reason.

Section 8 works a little differently around here. You get a voucher and you look for a landlord that will accept that voucher. It's hard to get a landlord to accept Section 8 in the more expensive neighborhoods, because they don't pay the going rate for rent.

However, sometimes it does happen, I personally know a few section 8 families that live around me, however the houses aren't in as good shape and I assume that's why the landlords accepted it.
