We will spend more than we have in the past because the last two holiday seasons were rough on us. The first one was my husband's first year and he was working on finding a good job, and last year he wasn't working much this time of year as the recession hit him hard. This year we both have stable jobs and are able to spend more on gifts for the holiday (thank God). However, we did just pay to remove conditions so that depleted our savings a bit.

We don't really buy Christmas gifts except for something for one of Dave's nieces who's still very young.

This year we are trying to save towards a down payment for a house so our Christmas gifts to each other will be putting money away in savings so we won't be spending much at all. At least the end result is better than last year when I got a new stove and fridge.

I'm afraid my answers will skew things quite a bit. The last two Christmases have been spent overseas, so with plane tickets + hotels (2007) + touristy activities, it got pretty expensive. This year we will only travel 22 miles from home

I will spend, as always, 0.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Every year we say we're going to spend less. Every year we seem to spend more. I'd like to think we could reduce spending by 20%. Who knows, its only November and we haven't started shopping.

We've decided this year to buy a gift for each of our family member's households vs each individual. I think that is working out better.
