I am receiving conflicting information about whether or not it is necessary to include affidavits from people to attest to the validity of our marriage. Some say that it is not necessary and that it's only really helpful if your other evidence is somewhat lacking. However, on the instructions for I-751, it says that the documents "should include... 5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least 2 people...."

So, assuming my other evidence covers stuff like joint finances, co-habitation, etc.... do I still need to find 2 people to do the letters?

No. We did not include any affidavits - we had plenty of other evidence - bank accounts, insurance, pictures, bills, subscriptions, travel tickets...

Its part of the 'roulette' one plays with petitions that require documentary proof. Certain evidence is suggested and its up to the petitioner to decide what to include. OP, if you feel that the documents you currently have sufficiently demonstrate an ongoing marriage, then you can chose to forgo the inclusion of affidavit letters, but if you feel your 'evidence' is on the thin side, you should have some letters to include. Alternatively, you can send you petition off as is, and have letters lined up and ready to go, should an RFE be sent or an interview requested.

We're working on the RoC paperwork now and I'm not sure if we'll need letters yet...but I plan on speaking with some friends to request them, just in case. :)

We submitted 2 affidavits with our ROC filing. I feel the more USCIS has, the less chance for RFE, interview, or them putting the file to the side to "think about it" which would result in delays. I say bombard them with proof :) We did, and were approved in exactly 2 months!

I have them because I thought we needed them. One is from my mom so I think that is nice. We have a good amount of proof from our lease to our cars to the bank, even a few pictures (though I know that's secondary. I'm just waiting for the affadavit to arrive in the mail....

Affidavits are not needed for the I-751 application and many people chose not to send them. If you feel your evidence of a bona fide marriage is weak, however, and you also feel that affidavits can be helpful in making your case, and you can get them easily, you might indeed want to include them in your package. It sure won't hurt your case.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
