Find an older Fuji FinePix 2800Z . as steady as a 35mm slr, imo.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The new sonys are great! Im a photographer, and for years I used an old minolta that my mother had given me. Switched to a canon for a while, but found out that sony bought out minolta. So all the old minolta lenses i have fit on my sony a350 dslr. Anyways, Nikon and Canon both have image stabilizers in the lenses, sony dslr is manufactured with the image stabilizer in the body of the camera, which is the reason i use it. It takes wonderful pictures, and its no where near as expensive as canon or nikon.

What about Nikon D3000, is this good? Suggestion for camera that is not very expensive. Let say, not over 500 dollars.

Well that rules out Hasselblad and Leica. :crying: I'm partial to some of the Canon models. I have an A590 and seems to do what I ask of it. Have you looked at Steve's Digicams website. Lots of camera reviews that will give you a good starting point. Also Digitalcamerareview.com is another great place to get some idea. The D3000 is a new camera but it seems to be pretty good.

I bought a Minolta Dimage Z1 for my first trip to the Philippines several years ago that that camera is terrific. I have an Olympic SLR 8meg that is tons more difficult to use and it also cost double what the Z1 cost.

This camera supposedly is used to replace the Nikon D60. It's a great camera for beginners with huge ambitions. Plus, it has the dust reduction system which is very handsome. It creates sonic sound vibration to get rid of the dust out of your picture.

Also, the 11 point 3-D autofocusing is a big deal.

Always a question as can a company with a lot of electronic experience or one with optical experience can make the best camera. In many respects, each are making improvements each year. But I kind of lean toward a company with optical experience.

Latest camera is a Fuji FinePix F31fd with an ISO rating of 3,200, takes beautiful night time shots, and smaller than a pack of cigarettes with a reasonably good wide angle lens capability. Seem to have quite a collection of older 35 mm cameras, but need a wheelbarrow to haul all that stuff and get extremely worried about any water damage. The replacement for the F31fd has far better specifications, but how many cameras does a guy need?

Most important for me is a good ISO rating, manual override, stated the best invention since the automatic camera is the manual override, takes any camera too long to make all those automatic adjustments and still fooled, and most important, built in wide angle capability. With telephoto, can in most cases move in closer, but can't if trying to take group shots in a small room, can only go back so far without falling out of a window. And you want something small enough to carry without a wheelbarrow. Ever try hauling a 1,500 mm lens?

We had a couple of Nikon's about 8-10 years, both died from the slightest bit of moisture that gave a negative feeling, these were like 800-1000 buck cameras, the ASIC's were shot, shorted outputs and all that. Still using Nikon software in my computer, that is very very good. But perhaps should keep an open mind regarding brands, and getting a camera that takes great pictures and feel comfortable using.

Prices have sure came down, and the number of pixels really don't improve the quality of the camera, contrast and color purity far outweigh that. A good high quality 35 mm film only has 150 dpi, so a zillion pixels only contributes to adding more noise to your photos.

Cameras are judged mostly about their ability to make a clear aberration free photo of a newspaper. But I seldom if ever take photos of newspapers. Air brushing pimples is more like it.

Thank you all for the inputs. My husband surprised me this morning, he bought the camera already. He did his own research and he end up buying this one.
