I strongly suggest you send a personal check so you can better track the case.

Yes, you can send two money orders. Yes there are different types of money orders. You can get one at any post office for up to $1000 I believe. Maybe $500.

I am trying to be clear. When I say AVOID money orders, I mean AVOID money orders, not just if it is convenient for you. If at all possible, USE A PERSONAL CHECK! That means, take the CASH you would use for the money order, go to a bank and OPEN an account. (Won't take much longer than waiting in line at the Post Office) THEN use one of the TEMPORARY checks they give you. Make it out to US Department of Homeland Security. If you cannot open an account, then find a friend, neighbor, relative ANYONE that has a bank account. If the bank is in the United States, that will work. Have THEM make out a personal check for $455 to the above payee and give them the cash you would use for a money order.

AVOID money orders. They are difficult to track and prove that payment has been made. You or a friend, neighbor, relative can get a copy of their check much easier.

When you send the package MAKE SURE

1. You have made at least ONE copy of the ENTIRE CONTENTS for yourself. Three copies are better

2. NEVER send ANYTHING to ANYONE in this process if you do not have delivery confirmation. Get delivery confirmation at your post office when sending or use Fedex or UPS

This. Also, if you're planning on getting married, working, paying taxes, and proving to USCIS that your and your spouse are commingling your assets, which you must be planning on if you're filing an I-129F, then you should probably open a bank account anyway. It'll make your life a lot easier.

Use one check to be safe. As others have suggested, you can go to a bank and purchase a certified check/money order for the full amount. Or have a friend write a check. You want to be able to track the payment and be sure that it is cashed. Multiple money orders could possibly cause you problems. This helps you to monitor the process.

Also, the suggestions before about opening a bank account are very good. You are going to want to have that as somethng to help prove the validity of your marraige when your then spouse adjusts status.

Best of luck.

300 dollar limit per money order is specific to 'where you go'. you can find other places that issue money orders for higher amounts. The Post Office was mentioned - might want to go there?

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Check or money order? :protest: Dare I suggest a money order is better?

A US Postal Service Domestic Money Order is a very secure payment option. For the $455 I-129F the USPS fee will be $1.10. No worries with using a money order, the I-129F instructions say "check or money order". And there is no way a bank foul-up will affect your transaction; bank accounts are subject to levy, overdrafts, etc... With a USPS Money Order there will be no delay for clearance; a USPS Money Order is drawn by a US gov agency in US funds and is going to a US gov agency... USCIS does not have to submit to your bank for clearance for it to be valid - it is valid payment upon receipt - by definition - it is a Money Order.

Remember, as others have said, make it payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security and send with delivery confirmation.

The check or money order... exactly how would you address that? Pay to the Order of ???? whom? Anyone have that address or know where I can find it?

I married my British Husband strictly for financial purposes. My heart wrote a check and I cashed it. (L)
