Traveling outside the U.S. what else is needed beside green card???

Hey guys, quick question. We're planning to take a vacation to where my wife is from and was wondering what type of documents beside the green card is needed for her. Her country of birth passport is going to expire this year, but we're going on a trip next year. So that's a no go.

<07-05-06> sent out K-1 application

<07-12-06> K-1 recieved (transferred to CSC from Nebraska)

<07-17-06> 1st NOA1 recieved

<07-25-06> Touched

<09-18-06> Touched and approved

<10-20-06> Case sent to Bangkok embassy (NOA 2 Recieved)

<10-23-06> Case arrived at Bangkok Embassy (9:53 a.m)

<11-01-06> Packet 3 shipped from BKK

<11-15-06> Packet 3 sent to embassy via express mail (still waiting for packet 3 from embassy)

<12-12-06> Medical exam + Vaccination Done

<12-??-06> Packet 4 Still waiting

<12-28-06> Interview date

<12-29-06> Visa in hand

<01-30-07> POE Seattle, WA

<02-14-07> Applied for SS

<02-17-07> Recieved Packet 3 <----Almost 5 months later (LOL)

  • PR/Green Card
  • Copy of Marriage certificate (if name changed) just in case.

Yes, she can get a US passport. They usually cost $350 in downtown Los Angeles and such a document will work just fine in Cambodia, especially when combined with a $100 bill. For air travel, however, that document won't work, as nowadays they have computerized readers at the airport, at which point she would get in serious trouble.

Better applying for a Cambodian passport again. A $100 bill should expedite the process, if needed.

Sorry, I totally forgot to give you the details, in case you want an American passport NOW.

After nightfall, go to the corner of Fairfax and Hollywood Blvd. Ask for Bubba. He looks a bit scary but he is a professional.

Tell Bubba that Habib from "da big house" sent you. Bubba doesn't like to use the word Passport, however, so the code is an abbrivated form: P-P.

Just hand Bubba the cash and tell him you want to buy Amercian P-P for your wife. Good luck!

No, she can't get a U.S. passport, only U.S. citizens can.

If the passport of her country of origin expires while she is in the U.S. she can go to the Embassy of her country in the U.S. and get a new passport there.

No, she can't get a U.S. passport, only U.S. citizens can.

If the passport of her country of origin expires while she is in the U.S. she can go to the Embassy of her country in the U.S. and get a new passport there.

She can travel with her expired passport if she is going to visit her country and get a new passport before she leaves for USA, because she will need a valid passport to get back to USA.

Same thing has happened to me. Im planning on visit my family next July and my passport expires in February. I can get a new passport through my embassy but it takes 10 weeks and costs me twice the price in my country.

She needs a passport to travel. You can get her passport renewed at the cambodian consulate. There is a consulate in Seattle I believe. The requirements appear to be fairly simple:

Extension Cambodian Passport: The requirements for extension the validity of your Passport are:

◦Complete one application form,

◦Copy greencard or other related document (see on the form), fee ; and prepaid return envelope (read below). The passport is also required to mail with the above documents. Standard service time is between 1 and 5 business days.

You need to keep your wife's passport current dude. Don't try to travel anywhere with an expired passport!
