Yes you are wrong...

Only a USC can file for a parent. USC can NOT for a Parent In-Law.

Yes, Boiler, it is hard to be without my mother when I know that she is completely alone there. If she were here, I would take care of her, and of her medicine if necessary of course. I am a daughter and the only family for her.

My parents are reasonably comfortable financially, they have their house, car, good savings and decent pensions.

But with medical care costs in the US that would be gone in no time.

The majority of their health care costs them nothing, they pay occasionally where there is a long wait.

It is so different in the US that I really do not know where to start. I can look after my Dad, I own a Hotel! But there is nothing I can do about the medical costs.

D&R,

I said

“I want to clarify few things:

1-I will never put my mother to live in a care giver house or nurse. It's not what I do. People even take a better care of a cat.”

you say:

“As for saying nursing homes treat their clients no better than 'cats'. Well, that's just a weird term, as I think ALL the cats I know are treated pretty damn well... food when they like it, sleeping all day, cuddles, strokes every person walking past them bending down to play with them etc ) I think the life of a cat is a pretty good one”

Can you see the difference?

Next time read carefully, please.

Yes, only I must petition for my mother, not my husband. This is the law.

Boiler, a hotel- good for you. I have 2 houses there and finances. Plus, if I sell them, I can take care of my mother. She is not that sick. She is just 69

You can get her here before the 3 years. Just give her $1,000,000 to start a business and she can get a visa based on business/employment creation.

She would only need half that 500,000 to come here on an investment visa anyone willing to spend 500k can get a visa if they are willing to invest it here.

Since the cost of medical care is being dismissed as a mere afterthought, I'm sure they must have at least that much. Looks like the problem has been solved.

I wish it was easy to be so dismisive about the cost of meical insurance. I have invested money so that I will have enough to cover my parents for the next 20 years. It is not cheap.

1 month medical insurance for both parents = $1,300.00

1 year for both parents = $15,600.00

20 Years for both parents = $312,000.00

That does not include yearly increases and in 20 years my parents would be 86 & 85 years old, so they could live for another 5 - 10 years after that.

I find it amazing that some people do not sit down and do the math before bringing there parent here..

Good luck to anyone who thinks that the health of their aging parent is not a major issue when planing to have them move to the USA.

TayRivers, I would ask not to post about the numbers in this thread anymore, cause I was asking about another question, about visa for my mother . For this, there is a different thread, you would probably need Medical Insurance thread or something like that. I know the numbers. Thank you.

Can I just remind you that I was posting this information not just for you but for anyone else who might read this thread and think about bringing a parent to the USA.

As for telling a Member of the Moderation team not to post in your thread.... well lets just not go there.

UH OH SNAPPPP

Information posted on a public message board is Public and it is part of the OP of this thread. By letting people know what the costs are after someone gets here people are informing not just the OP but the many who read this thread. Again I state if you do not like the answers you are getting then stop acting like you are three years old in your repsones

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

You just dont get it do you. I tried to tell you in a PM that you can not tell anyone to not post on VJ. Now I am telling you publicly to stop telling people to not post.

If you do not wish to have your situation discussed in public then you may find the services of a immigration lawyer more suited to your needs.

VJ is a public forum and as such anyone can post a reply in this or any other thread and as long as it does not break the TOS. That is what public forums are for.

As another moderator stepping in, may I remind the Original Poster that everyone who has responded has been polite to you. Not hearing the information that you want to hear because that isn't the truth does not mean they are being rude. This is a public forum and everyone who is a member here on Visa Journey is allowed to post in all of the forums.

As Tay mentioned, sponsoring a visa for an older parent may well require you having to prove to the US Consulate that your mother's health needs will be covered by medical insurance along with all of her other financial needs if they allow her to come to the US. If you cannot provide them with that proof - and Tay knows because she has gone through this to bring her parents to the US - then the Consulate may well say, no - no medical insurance: no visa. So, whether you believe it is important or not, it is part of answering your question about getting a visa for your mother.

The first part of your question was 'can I do this before I am a US citizen in 3 years?'. The answer is no. The rest of the information people have provided is to offer you the information you need to consider when you are allowed to sponsor your mother - who will be in her 70s by then - in 3 years time.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
