Hi VJ friend. I plan to apply a credit card to start building my credit score. I check on capitalone website, they offer some credit cards for limited credit history with 22.7% APR. I know it's pretty high, but I'm not gonna use my credit card very often and want to paid off the bill every month, so I careless about the interest rate.

My question is: Is it a good thing if I paid off my credit card bill every month? OR do I need to pay less then bill's amount to have a good credit report? If the second choice will give a better credit report that means I need to find other credit card with decent APR.

Please share your experience/give your comments guys. Thanks in advance!!

That's what my husband and I did, as of course, I didn't have any US credit score and he never really used a credit card prior. We had a score of 725 within 4 months. I chose a card with WAMU (now Chase) where I had to place a $300 deposit, which was also my credit line. I only used the credit card once or twice a month for even less than the 33% and paid it off every months, prior to due date.

It worked for both of us and so I believe it will work for you. After a year, my score went to around 800. Wamu made me see my score every month, Chase doesn't. :star:

CapitalOne sent me a mail offering credit card (low interest, no fees, no deposit) and my husband said it would be a good first step to build my credit score. So I started using the card a few months ago. My husband said how much you use your credit card has nothing to do with your credit score. But timely and full payments do. So I just use my CapitalOne card once a month (usually to buy gas about 30 dollars or so, which is very very small compared to the credit limit the bank gives me), and use the other credit card for other things (have another card that has same number as my husband's and it gives points). We pay the CapitalOne card bill fully every month.

Hope this helps.

It is okay to pay it off every month. These articles will give an overview of what it takes to get a good credit score.

I did loans for a few years. You'll need 2 major lines (over 1000) of credit (cards). Use them but never go above 50 percent available balance ever.

A car loan (pay it off but do it) is also another credit scam they get you to do. Basically they want to see you've borrowed big and paid off before getting into a house otherwise you're talking FHA insurance and an FHA loan.

Optimal is 2 cc's over a grand each (or they won't count) a car loan nearly paid off and a paid or going to be paid off house. Nothing more.

NEVER carry a credit card balance into the next month; they're all evil and will screw you over in a heartbeat!
