We have some friends who live there - it's a whole other way of life (rough but beautiful).

if we go there, it would be for 4 years...i love the outdoors, snow and everything else....im just afraid im going to be toooo lonely...no friends, no nothing....

alaska is too cold..seasons are toos hort except winter...and the politics is too right wing

If you could move there for a couple of years to experience the awesomeness of nature, then it would be an exciting and worth while experience, but to move there permanently? I think you have to be a certain type of 'rugged' individual to enjoy it full time or at least that is what I have gleaned from those I know who have lived there, including father in law.

It probably depends on which part of Alaska you are moving to. I think the cities are a lot like other cities in terms of having people around and things to do. My friends who have lived in Alaska can't stop talking about the beauty. I used to want to move there, but I'm not sure I can take the long winters. Even here in the South, I find that after winter is over, I look back and realize I've been in a funk since fall. I need sun! But for a few years, I think I would find it a great adventure. And who knows? Maybe I would fall in love with the place. Many have.

there is at least one uker that moved there recently, as there fiance/now hubby is there, she seems to be happy
