Zidane apparently called "Dirty Terrorist"

just to clear up a stated misconception in this thread....

How does that clear it up? Celebrities try to retract their statements all the time (usually when they have a movie coming out), but it doesn't mean they're actually sorry to have said it. They're just sorry they said it OUT LOUD.

so you pick and choose which words you want to believe... and even what thoughts are in other ppls heads... thats clearly a very special gift... one that, in fact, noone else on this earth has... did your God bestow you with that privilege above all others on the planet? did He grant you the right and responsibility to judge? i dont think so... God is the only one who can judge... isnt that what your beloved religion tells you?

how bout we all stick to speaking for ourselves, instead of others?

as far as the rest of this thread is concerned, if ppl would stop judging and viewing ppl as groups, then the world would be a better place...

ppl shouldnt make fun of other ppl (as an ethnicity)

and its tempting for ppl NOT to reciprocate when they have to take it from others

hypocrisy is always hard to bear... so dont dish it out if you cant take it... or even better yet, just dont dish it

and only then, will you find the meaning of happiness."

There are certain 'groups' it is 'ok' to make fun of.

For future reference, please note:

1. French soldiers

2. Rednecks

3. Evangelicals

4. Eskimos

5. Indian/Arab convenience store owners

6. Italian mobsters

7. Irish alcoholics

8. Russians who drink vodka

you forgot the saffron-dress wearing Buddha lovers...:goofy:

:P

On a separate topic, it's funny when someone of the nationality makes fun of themself. My dad is half Italian and he loves telling Italian jokes...nothing degrading but just stupid and funny. Like, why are there so many Italians with the name Tony? Because when they were immigrating they got "TO NY" stamped on their foreheads... I'm Italian so I can make fun of myself...

If Materazzi indeed called him dirty terrorist then he should step up and say it, so the right measures can be take to establish the right punishment for him as well. Honestly, and take my word for it, the guy is indeed so ignorant I wouldn't be surprised he truly doesn't know what a terrorist is. :help:

Then again no foul words, no matter how nasty, justify a wild act such as a headbutt.

it was a joke. put away the electron microscope and quit making the smallest thing larger than life - build a bridge and get over it.

No it was a small minded xenophobic joke. I pointed it out and that was that. Nothign for me to get over. A si already stated you have the problem not me. I didn`t make it larger than life i just pointed it out. How does that make it larger than life? Other people have responded and are now debating the issue in general. If that is my doing in your eyes well forgive me for being such a mind controller without realising it.

Viva MExico - it's fine...but don't you see just a LITTLE how your reasoning is faulty? I can make Mexican jokes but not Latino ones? I don't know...

i see your point. I guess it goes back to what I said about context, and knowing that you are truly joking, which I should not have assumed people would know about me here

It is all about context. I (falsely) assumed that people here would be up for some good-natured ribbing (which is what I intended it to be), considering that this is a site for international couples. I would guess most, if not all, of us are quite open-minded about different races, ethnicities, etc. SOOOO, before this goes any further, let me apologize if I offended any French people. Most of my friends are from outside the U.S., and when i joke with them they know I am truly joking. I should not have assumed that the folks here would know that because you don't know me!

damn, you let the pc cops wear you down. Shame on u!

Which is why I say 'context defines'.

Case in point - one of my best friends is a German, and we make jokes all the time (within reason) about the war.

That's rather different to going into a german bar where you don't know anyone and start making jokes about the nazis, hitler and concentration camps.

I was not questioning whether you are open-minded. You most certainly are, and I was pointing out that I assumed most of us are...i continue to believe that.

I was not suggesting there was anybody running away crying. I was simply saying i found it to be ignorant. Of course things like this can wash off your back. Of course on another day Zidane could have laughed it off and gone on to win the game. I imagine though that if you are always subjected to this type of subtle abuse then it can get on your nerves. For all we know Zidane could have been dealign with it the whole game. Maybe that was his *shut up already*.

but sure if we disagree then so be it but as soon as anybody makes general stertypical statements about me or others i just lose a little bit of respect for them. Sorry.

I never doubted that what Zidane must have heard was something pretty flaming and while not condoning it in the least, I can even say I understand where actions come from. It's not acceptable, but human reactions aren't always perfect either. But I DO ask that before you colour someone (me) as ignorant racially for finding what I read to be primarily harmless in some other posts, you read more of my posts before you judge them (me)....however silly and time wasting to your mouse they may be.

Peace... 11_12_1.gif

On a seperate note and also in part defence of Zidane. He is a professional soccer player, playing in the most important game of the sport...can you imagine how high your adrenaline levels would be, the ferocious amount of pressure on your shoulders? None of us here can, as far as I am aware, no VJ member is a professional soccer player for his country.

Granted what he did was stupid, but clearly he was provoked. Couple this with the emotions and feelings of the day - and we all know the outcome.

Personally I think Johnny Depp is a very good actor who doesn't just 'do it for the money'. To his credit he takes the roles that interest him. Up until about a year or two ago he was still primarily choosing the roles that interested him as an actor, rather than many of the A-listers who really do do it for the money. Michael Caine certainly did - judging by this infamous statement after the release of Jaw: The Revenge.

"I have not seen the film, but I hear it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it paid for, and it is superb."

Don't really what his political beliefs, such as they might be really matter at the end of the day. As I said, the guy lived, and still has property in the States - so he's quite entitled to an opinion, whether or not you choose to agree with it.

Quite frankly, I get the impression Incanada that you are a deeply unhappy person with some serious anger issues. You might not admit it, but it manifests itself quite clearly in your posts.
