Consulate Review: Juarez, Mexico
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : The first day we went for the medical exam at 7:00 a.m. We first went to the clinic right next to the consulate, but they sent us to the "blue" clinic just down the street because they were so busy. The clinic was relatively busy but not packed, and we were out of there by 9:00. They take a photo, then a blood test, and a chest xray. The fee is $135 , and they do NOT accept credit cards, so i had to take a 10 minute walk to an ATM. We returned at 2 for the results and had them in less than a minute.

The next morning we arrived at the Consulate at 7:00 a.m. There were 100 - 200 people in line, but it moved very quickly. It is NOT necessary to arrive any earlier for the fiance visa. I can't speak to other visa types, but all the fiance applicants were done before 12:30 regardless of their position in line! Sofia got in the door at 7:30 and they made me wait outside. There is now a large sign on the door saying that K1 applicants cannot have their fiance accompany them inside. So i sat on the street all morning and ate a burrito and paced up and down. Sofia said that she entered, waited, gave the papers to someone, and was then sent to another building. she waited again, then had the interview, which lasted about 1 minute. the girl didn't look at anything except the DS156 forms and a photo of the two of us, then asked her where we met and that was it. She approved the visa and sofia had to wait a long time while they actually made it, but she was out of the consulate by 12:30!!! WOO HOO!

Juarez is not that bad...not at all what i expected from all the bad press it gets. Don't get me wrong, it's not a tourist destination, but we found it to be safe and clean.

Embassy Review : We had our interview at the Bloomington office and had a great experience. A female officer called us in on time, swore us in, and then went through the basic information (address, ss #, etc) to make sure everything was right. Then she asked us how we met, smiled, looked at a few photos and said "I can approve you today!" She stamped my wife's passport and said the card should arrive in a few days. Our experience there was great...everyone was very friendly. I hope you all have the same experience. Best of luck!!!
Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
