It becomes about me for some reason. I didn`t mention your xenophobia because of some campaign against you( i am not sure if you meant me or not but i do not read most off topic threads so no doubt miss a lot of your gems). I pointed out your xenophobia because i think it is important to call people out when they say such small minded things. It is not about you but about what you said. It was xenophobic.

I just could not in good faith laugh at a mean spirited joke..or a joke based on a generalization. Living in the South I hear jokes like that about African Americans all the time...I work with these children...who are the brunt of these jokes. how could I laugh at a joke like that, or condone it, and then turn around and work with those kids? It would be hypcritical and wrong.

I don't care what race, nationality, or anything you are...these jokes are mean spirited whether YOU mean them that way or not.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

it was a joke. put away the electron microscope and quit making the smallest thing larger than life - build a bridge and get over it.

QUOTE(karo112 @ Jul 11 2006, 11:45 AM)

so if it's against a RACE its bad...but against a nationality...it's ok?

More or less.

WOw...so if I made a mean joke that was MEXICAN based it's ok...if it's about LATINOS, then it's not.

And where was all this outrage yesterday in the thread that said Zidane was given player of the tournament about how he stunk and needed deodorant? I found that more offensive because he was being attacked as an individual.

oh I saw it but I am done arguing with that girl about italian soccer. we've had our go...

Just so you know I never considered our conversations as arguments. (F)

Expressing disgust about him getting awarded has nothing to do with Italian soccer, believe it or not I was just as disgusted when Totti spitted in the face of a Danish player at Euro 2004, and never ever have I blamed it on the other guy for being a provoker, or think he was less guilty. If you are a man and you have class you ignore cheap provoking remarks, if you can't keep your cool you automatically turn into the bad guy who's wrong. So no excuse for Totti's bad reaction then, no excuse for Zidane's either.

About the joke...I am not the one who implied he stinks, I simply joked about how much he sweats, as in quantity...I was actually trying to lighten up the bad joke, my bad...I guess my attempt didn't work. I wasn't trying to attack anyone personally, I thought it actually showed.

Edited to add: I have been trying to fix the #### quotes but I don't seem to make it right... :crying::lol:

It is all about context. I (falsely) assumed that people here would be up for some good-natured ribbing (which is what I intended it to be), considering that this is a site for international couples. I would guess most, if not all, of us are quite open-minded about different races, ethnicities, etc. SOOOO, before this goes any further, let me apologize if I offended any French people. Most of my friends are from outside the U.S., and when i joke with them they know I am truly joking. I should not have assumed that the folks here would know that because you don't know me!

I DO think though that most people know when they are making a "crepe-type" statement, they are not doing it without knowledge that all French people don't eat or even like crepes. Christ, if someone wants to call me a McDonald's lover, I'm not going to run for cover and cry or if they want to say....oooh, I must wear trainers won't illicit a response either  ...mainly because it's not true and afterall, if that's the best they can do to insult me, they are pretty lame. And I'd still maintain that the crepe remarks are not terrible insults. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that. Calling someone a terrorist, in this day and age though is a whole different level.

I was not suggesting there was anybody running away crying. I was simply saying i found it to be ignorant. Of course things like this can wash off your back. Of course on another day Zidane could have laughed it off and gone on to win the game. I imagine though that if you are always subjected to this type of subtle abuse then it can get on your nerves. For all we know Zidane could have been dealign with it the whole game. Maybe that was his *shut up already*.

but sure if we disagree then so be it but as soon as anybody makes general stertypical statements about me or others i just lose a little bit of respect for them. Sorry.
