hi all.. possibly the wrong forum but anyway here we go.

I have applied for the K1 visa and have our wedding booked on 23rd april 2010 in florida. However a good friend is getting married in the UK about 10 days after mine and I would love to fly over for it.. however I understand you cannot leave (or it is very difficult) the US during adjustment of status.

Is there anyway I can get permission to leave for the wedding in the UK or am I just pushing my luck... I kind of want to let him know if we can both make his wedding.

Thanks,

Sean.

Yep, pretty much you will have a hard time. You need to apply for advanced parole to leave the US before ajustment of status is complete - however this can take months not days. If you leave without AP you will have to start the application process from the very beggining.

While there is an option to expedite it - this is usualy only for emergencies like medical incidents of deaths in the family.

Have you considered rescheduling instead?

You can leave without issue... what you need is "permission" to return....

YMMV

no i dont think rescheduling is an option... I can't wait any longer than I am :-)

it's a shame but my friend is aware of the situation and we have the wedding plans pretty much all sorted now anyway.

If you get married as soon as possible (after POE) and apply for AP you should be OK. AP apparently takes about 2 months to receive. This of course all depends on when you get your visa and enter this US. So, if you were able to enter the US in January, get married at the courthouse or something, apply for AP, have your "real" wedding in april, you should have enough time to receive AP and return to the US after your friends wedding.

Hi, get married first here in USA and file your AOS, included in that package is the Advance Parole, have to wait for that approval and have the approved AP in ur hand, by then you can leave USA and no problems coming back if u have that AP documents.

Good luck and God bless!

The only possible option is to marry as soon as you arrive here; only need to go to the county courthouse to be legally married. Then submit your AOS documentation ASAP and hope to get your AP or GC before your friend's marriage. You then can have your big ceremony in April.

Yeah this is pretty much the only way I can see you being able to get to the UK for the wedding.

You would REALLY be pushing your luck. It typically takes 2-3 months after filing for the AP to receive it. Why not just change your entry by 10 days? If you do not have your visa in HAND and you indicate you do not...it is a major fool's errand to book anything

We booked the wedding yes... wanted it during a peak time and Sarah's parents are paying for a lot of it. I know its a risk but i hoping everything goes like normal and april is 9 months away so fingers crossed..

if not i guess we just move it
