Most people in the U.S. don't even know where Brasil is, they think it is next to Mexico and Brasilians speak Spanish.

A big percentate of Americans don't know where Washington DC is.

Last year there was a drive by shooting in a town close to me and the radio report said the police were searching for two Mexicans from Guatamala.

Would they not be Guatamalans?

I had to laugh on that one.

The people in this area are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

There was a report on the radio again, of a man appraoching a cop in a gas station to report someone stealing his drugs, he was driving a stolen car.

i agree that many people are geographically challenged; however, the examples you have given are extreme. i would like to meet someone over 12 without a learning disability who can't find DC on a map and is unaware that NM is a state.

This has nothing to do with Brazil, but when I was moving to Australia people would always ask me it that was in Eastern or Western Europe.

I know they were just getting confused with Austria or something, but how can someone over the age of 12 not know where on a map Australia is!? I just don't get it at all.
