what if my fianceé gets a job and his dad will be co-sponsor... then that should be enough right???

Oh I'm so freaking out. This is ridicilous though. Other words for this are: Poor people don't deserve love...

No. Primary sponsor and co-sponsor do not combine income. If the primary sponsor qualifies on their own, then the co-sponsor isn't needed. If the primary sponsor doesn't qualify, then the co-sponsor must qualify, and they must qualify on their own.

I realize your frustration, but another way to look at this is that the American people don't have an obligation to support intending immigrants just because their US citizen sponsors are in love. The whole purpose for the minimum requirements is to ensure that you don't end up living off of the American taxpayers.

You do not combine income to meet guidelines using the I-134. At least one sponsor must qualify on their own. The USA is not a welfare state and it isn't socialist, yet. There are reasons for the qualifications. Meet them or wait until you do. No money, not honey.

A co-sponsor must have the required amount of income for their household size. Its not an addition of co-sponsor and petitioner, the co-sponsor must have enough income to support all 3 of you regardless of the petitioner's income. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I think his dad would have to make the 125% of a family of 4 if its you, your fiance, his mom and his dad, which would be about $27,562

Your statement about income needed is correct, but the USC fiance would not "count" unless he is in the father's household and a dependent also. Otherwise he counts only the foreign fiancee and his himself and family members dependent on him. The peitioner counts himself in his family size, but the co-sponsor does not

Hopefully =\ The crisis in America is bad... =x

his mum gets like a disability from the government and she and his dad aint married. Theyre stated as gf/bf. So they both get money....

and $27,562 a year???

The I-134 is an individual document. You can have as many as you want but they do not combine incomes. SOMEONE needs to make the minimum all on their own, it doesn't matter if the parents are married or not. HER disability does not combine with his income. If he is not married and does not claim the mother on his income tax, then she does not count in his family size, in that case it would be just you and the father...a family of two...unless their are other children in the home

Thanks Gary, I wasnt quite sure except that I knew they had to qualify on their own for their size of household.

Excuse me but I am not aware that Netherlands is a country that allows fiancees the opportunity at residency or citizenship under any circumstances. What are the words for that?

As a citizen I really don't care who people fall in love with as long as they can pay for it themselves. There are some rules to meet, get over it. I will be glad to give advice and I think some people here have maybe found a solution for you (provided his father earns over $18,500) so what's the beef with our country?

Good grief.

Your situation is not unique at this point in the US. The economy is firing on about 4 cylinders, we're in the trough (maybe 7 o'clock position) of a U shaped curve. I dont see it getting better or coming out of it until mid 2011, probably much later for normal hiring again. Those of us making over $100k yearly are at high risk for a number of reasons and if made redundant, it will probably take 12-18 months to find another job at the same salary.

In my case, I may be in your position soon as well. I have developed several other options since a co-sposor is not in the cards for me. For example, one option is to immigrate to Canada since she has a good job. My advice is to develop and Plan B, C and D. I been to the Netherlands many times. It's a wonderful country (my favorite internation airport) and people. Any reason he cannot marry you and immigrate there until things turn around in the US and Europe? Are you employed and able to sponsory him? Just a thought on on an option.

No, him moving to Holland is not an option, I've had a lot of problems here and Holland is going to ruin because of drugs etc. Not the only reason but it's not an option. He sended his resume to about 7 company's, so lets hope. He is going to ask about his dad (it isn't his real dad btw, it's his stephdad. It's a little complicated lol) How much he earns a year. So hopefully he earns enough to be able to be co-sponsor. Are friends able to be co-sponsor as well?

@ Gary, I'm sorry but if you would be in the same position. you might be i don't know, you'll get stressed out as well. Your comment does not help me. Sure you don't care but i'm not gonne rely on the government there. They are a warm family and they all take care of eachother. No one ever had to rely on the goverment before my fianceé lost his job. So i won't be using money from "tax payers". If Holland does the same thing then the same words for my country.... As far as I know you can get someone to Holland even if you're collecting. My aunt was collecting disabillity and she got someone from Nigeria into Holland. but that was about 5 years ago. No offense, but if you don't care about others falling in love, why are you here on this website helping people out i wonder.... And i have nothing against America, I have something against countries goverments. Get over it? Get over what? That i might never be able to be with the man I love? What a comment is that....

Actually, my comments were very helpful as I pointed out your fiances unmarried parents can file a co-sponsorship for you without have to claim a household size of 3. His father can claim 2.

The comment about my country comes from when young people fall in love and expect the sovergienty of a country to get out of the way because they are in love. Your least post is "I guess we will have to figure it out" Yes, no kidding. Glad we could help you with suggestions, but YES, you and your fiance need to figure out how to support each other.

This isn't about caring about people falling in love, it isn't about if poor people can afford to or not. It is about helping people in the process with my experience with that process. Affidavits of support are part of the process. We all go through the same process, we all went through the waiting, no one here is the Lone Ranger.

"get over it" meant "get over it that we have a process and don't take down all the barriers because you happen to be in love" On this site, I would say it is a fair guess we are ALL in love and ALL had to meet the guidelines. I will be glad to help you. I will be happy if you can refrain from running down my country because the immigration policies are not temporarily convenient for you.

I wasn't referring to your other comments, they were very helpfull and i thank you for that.

Let's just drop the subject, I have no strenght to argue. We're gonne try have his stephdad or his friend to be our join sponsor. I don't want the government to get out of the way or change their laws because of me. But that doesn't mean i cannot have my personal opinion. You went through the whole process, you sure know it was stressfull. Blame me for trying to find an victim (this case the government) to losen my frustrations on. It's not more then normal to do =]

I understand your frustration. Let me advise you on something else, you may not think sympathetic, but it is.

In this process, if anything goes wrong...it is YOUR problem. If the government loses your medical exam at the POE (happens often enough) YOU have to get a new one AND pay for it. If they send you a LETTER stating in writing you don't need something for the interview, and it is a MISTAKE (as happened in our case) you STILL need the document. They don't say "Oh, our mistake, never mind" NO. They say "Our mistake...get us the document or no visa". See how that works. Your fault, their fault, anyone's fault...your problem.

What I am getting to is...the sooner you stop looking to "blame" someone or something and say to yourselves "WE have to do this!" The sooner you will be successful. You did the right thing asking questions here, there isn't a better place on earth in my opinion, and once you know what you need to do, you are halfway there

Good luck
