Those links say this:

So certified copies are acceptable.

Bobby - if you are going to quote items - please do not leave out important information, if the OP sends copies he will get an RFE. What it actually says is:

"The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity) ".

It is very important when talking about certified copies to note that NVC will not accept a photocopy that is 'notarized'.

What they want is the original or a certified copy from the issuer - this means the government office that issues copies of the original in your country.

For example - let's say a Birth Certificate:

You are born, your Mother fills out the original birth certificate, however (except in a few rare instances in certain countries) that original is sent to the government office to be stored.

You then want a copy - so you go to the government office and request a true certified copy of the birth certificate.

Is this an original? no - but it is the certified copy that NVC requires.

Kenza - please have your Husband check this page - it will tell him exactly what he needs and where to go to get it:

My point was - and I was not trying to be rude - is that there is a lot of confusion about 'certified' copy vs 'notarized' copy. You probably already know this, having read quite a few posts on VJ.

That is why I think it is important to quote all the information.

I will give you an example. If you said to most Canadians - you need a 'certified copy' - we may think of this as a 'notarized copy'. Here is a direct quote from the Service Canada (Government) website (even the first one would be open for interpretation):

What is a 'certified copy'?

A "certified copy" is a photocopy of an original identity document that has been certified as being a true and accurate copy of the original document.

Authentication of Documents - Foreign Affairs

Photocopies or birth, marriage or death certificates can be authenticated. However, they must be certified true copies, signed and sealed by a Canadian lawyer, solicitor, notary or commissioner of oaths. If the photocopies you send are not properly certified, signed and sealed, they will be returned to you without being authenticated.

My point is that the term 'certified' can mean different things in different countries - that is the only reason I personally think it is necessary to clarify when quoting the requirements.

Kenza Yes you need to send the original translation and the original document together, not one or the other. You should be given back the 'originals', of everything you send to NVC, at the interview - except for the original police certificates, they will keep those.

Also are the originals in the original language (Arabic) required? or the original translations?

I ask a friend he told not to send a the original Mariage certificate(it's not easy to replace). He just send a certify copy

but he send the original court record($4), police certificate(it cost $4) and a birth certificate (50 cent) because they are not hard to get. he also send the the original translation and a photocopy of everything. He didn't get anything back at the interview.

So thing can be different from country to country, person to person, also depend on who hundels your case at the NVC and if they know what they are doing.

Good luck Kanza

The NVC requires Original documents for marriage certificate, birth certificates and police certificates. As a rule of thumb, these documents must bear the seal from the issuing authority. You must also send a photocopy of each of these documents as well. We received everything back during the interview.

I may have misunderstood your post, but if you have a document that is in Arabic, you will need to send the Original as well as the translated document. If you only send the translation, you will receive an RFE.

Best of Luck...
