This is just real quick. We submitted our DS-230 on March 15 and today my husband called the NVC for an update and they said we got an RFE for Question No. 20 on DS-230 which is asking the list of my residence since I was 16. I was born Jan. 1983 and been living in one place since I was a baby. But since they are asking me of my residence SINCE i was 16 so I wrote on the First line From/To : 01/1999 (didnt write anything for To) I filled this form online so I cannot use letters on the date fields so I place the word "Present" instead on the Address field of the form. Then i typed on the 2nd line "Nothing follows"

We are wondering what was my mistake there. Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Me personally, I would have put the year I was born and wrote "Present", the remaining lines I would have put "N/A"

I was the only one who used Option 2, aww mannn....this stinks!!!!

I think you will be fine Champi since there is no exact date of the month needed there. Relax!

Thanks... I just would feel better if someone who had written it the way I did got through w/o RFE can respond....

Next question: This to/from thing is also bit confusing. I've read somewhere that the timing can not be overlap but in a way it has to be. For example

Option 1:

01/2004 - PRESENT

05/1983 to 01/2004

Option 2

02/2004 - PRESENT

05/1983 to 01/2004

I've Option 2, will this cause RFE? NOTE: Month is different in Option 1 and Option 2.

Has anyone sent DS-230 with answer to question written as Option 2 and not get RFE?

Anyone at all?

Champi - we used both options (my husband had three addresses). No RFE for DS-230, it passed with flying colors! Don't worry! :D

My case complete at the NVC waiting for an interview.

You must hand write present. I know I read this somewhere I just don't remember where. You can use either the date of your 16th birthday or your date of birth as the starting date.

According to the NVC you should wait until you get the barcode for the RFE in the mail. Otherwise it can take several weeks to get into your file. I sent my RFE info without the barcode and it took 1.5 weeks to be placed in my file. I resent the RFE with the barcode and it still took almost the same amount of time. But I would reccomend re-printing the original barcode and mailing it again to prevent any delays.

The dates should meet meaning there shouldn't be gaps, therefore Option 1 is the better option. There is no overlap there. What they mean by overlap is if you say from 01-2004 to 05-2006 and then the next place 03-2006 to 07-2008... here there is overlap.

Also the NVC may have common sense but you have to undesrstand it is a process with checklists. Most of these things are scanned and entered into our files electronically. For all we know it is the computer generating a flag for a blank on the questionare. If it is a person checking, they have to check it off on their checklist. They are following procedure.

Best of luck to you all,

Noi

We had an RFE on question 20. Neither the word present nor the overlap. Our corrected DS 230 was reported as received on March 12 and there has been no activity since. I am sharing this just so you adjust your expectations for case complete, because I thought that since it's only 1 line they will complete it quickly after they receive it, but alas. I call every day and they tell me they haven't gotten to it yet, it will be 2 to 4 weeks.

We did not wait for their RFE cover letter but attached the IV barcoded Cover sheet and it was processed within 2 days. so it worked for us.

Good luck!

I don't mind at all :)

Here is what i had:

Hometown - May 2008 - Present

Town X - November 2007 - May 2008

Town Y - May 2007 - November 2007

Here is what I should have had:

Hometown - May 2008 - Present

Town X - November 2007 - May 2008

Town Y - May 2007 - November 2007

Hometown - Age I reached 16 - May 2007

The problem is that the questions says "List the places" it doesn't say list six month periods since you reached 16. Also I had a question of what if I lived somewhere for less than six months at a time but more than six months total? I didn't end up including periods of less than six months, but i think this question is confusing.

Thank you guys for taking some time to respond to this post. I just printed again the DS-230 with the date since i live here 03-1983 - PRESENT and I also printed an additional of just the page 2 with the date since I was 16 which is 01-1999 - PRESENT. It is kinda costly to send documents to the US so I just want him to get everything he might need. I am ready to send these forms tomorrow...not sure when will it get there but this will give us plenty of time to think which one is which. LOL this is making me loca! Simple question #20 but quite tricky...cost me few MORE days not to be with my husband.

Oh btw, when I went back to state.gov website to fill up the form again...this time I can type the word PRESENT. They must have made some changes on it. My luck!

Have a wonderful day everyone. Start your day with a smile :D God bless us all!
