Hello Fellow Members,

Just want to know is having a cover letter in any application necessary or needed? How important is it to have one?

I asked this coz as far as i can remember I did not have cover letter when i adjust my status and never encountered any problem or RFE at all.

Also I will be removing my condition 3 months from now so i am thinking that I will better have a cover letter by then. Am i right? Any ideas will be appreciated.

We will include a cover letter with our ROC application next month. A cover letter is not a requirement though and you won't receive an RFE for not including one. I see it as a useful checklist and I'm sure the immigration officer who will be working on our case will appreciate it too as it will make it easier for him to locate things. Whether you decide to include a cover letter or not, I wish you good luck!

We included a cover letter and used it as a check list of documents we were sending in to support our petition. Just wanted to make it a bit easier to the adjudicator.

Cover letter is not a requirement but surely it will make a difference and will make things easier for the IO to locate important stuff.Good luck sis!

Cover letter is optional, but I'm definitely including one for my I-751 package. When I went to my AOS interview, I saw the cover letter that I submitted then was included in my AOS file and the adjudicating officer was reading it.

You will not get RFE's for not including a cover letter with your package.I personally prefer to include cover letters in everything I submit, I'm used to doing it that way and I believe helps whoever is reading it organize and check what I submitted.

Why not include a cover letter? It is not that much work and by including the cover letter it helps me get organized and gives me a one page visual of what I have included in my paperwork. Maybe I forgot something it is nice to see it on paper.

I agree with LastSurvivor. Coverletter helps the IO as well as you in two ways.

1- It helps you to organize your attachments in order

2- It informs IO and you what is included in the package. So it serves as a checklist for you to help you make sure you are not forgetting something in the application package.

The final decision is yours, but i will highly recommend you to include one. you can find sample cover letters for I-751 online or in the VJ example forms (following link).

Wish you good luck.
