What did you wear on your interview day?

No matter how or what you wear it doesn't affect on your Visa approval. The matter is you should be direct to the point on your answer and being honest to them. That's the best thing you can do. And ofcourse! ask always the guidance of the Lord. (F) Edited by F23

Wife wore her work clothes, a very professional business office suit, hair and makeup, looked very professional and behaved that way, but she is very conscientious of her appearance and her appearance affects her self confidence. You would have to ask yourself that same question as to how your appearance affects your manner. No guidelines that I know of for the interview, but do have guidelines for the oath ceremony.

I wore a business suit (and so did my husband who accompanied me). Most applicants at the USCIS office were dressed nicely (business/Sunday clothes). The clothes shouldn't decide the outcome of your interview because the officer has to go by the facts on your application and your answers during the test. But I think dressing nicely (like for a job interview) shows respect for the importance of the interview and also to the officer. I know if I would meet somebody for the very first time and he applied for something very important, I would appreciate it if he would put a little effort in his/her appearance. My officer was very nice and professional and helpful and maybe that had a little to do with the fact that I showed him the courtesy of dressing appropiately for an important appointment.

I would suggest dress well, but you need to be comfortable and confident in whatever you choose - for me that was nice trousers, polished shoes and a long sleeve shirt, no tie.

I know some of you will tell me that it shoud not matter to the adjudicator what you wear on the day of the interview. I just want to know from your own personal experience if it really didnt matter based on the outcome of the interview.

Thanks in advance for sharing :)

I wore a business casual suit & tie. Everyone in the waiting room was dressed nicely, not overdoing it. To me it was like a job interview. Although what you wear should have nothing to do with the outcome, i'm sure it shows respect and is appreciated. Remember you are going to swear to tell the truth, so this is a very official interview, not a chat.

Just casual pants and a collared shirt!! Some wore suits, dresses, some wore just jeans and a t-shirt! 1 gal even wore very worn jeans and a tshirt that didnt even cover her belly button! 1 guy had on extremely dirty jeans! I think the whole spectrum was covered, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Haha... the dirty jeans is funny flames9, I can understand why someone would wear tattered or worn clothe as long as it's clean, what can we do if he cant afford a new wardrobe, but not even washing his clothes before going to the interview?

but hey, they cannot really be judged according to what they can afford to wear. Especially in this tough economy. :)

I wonder what happened to that chick who wore the torn jeans and the extra small shirt that showed her belly button hahah...

What Stella posted cracked me up hahahah

I wonder what will happen if Cookie showed up with his suggested get-up for that day

Business casual will be good, but if you want to show respect to USCIS adjudicator, you may want to wear business formal dress code.

USCIS adjudicator is not supposed to judge you based on how you looks, but they are also a person.

So if they feel you dress nicely, they may feel better about you.
