Looking for advice on how to expidite my fiancee getting her permanent resident card. She's coming back with me to the US on April 21. Because our time is limited to plan an entire wedding extravaganza, we are looking at a quick elopement to Vegas to get our marriage certificate. Is it possible to have a more formal ceramony (maybe 6 months) after a simple Justice of the Peace elopement in Las Vegas, even though we're already married? Has anyone done this before? (The family will be pissed if they can't partake.)

Also, how long does it take to receive a certificed marriage certificate from Clark County in Las Vegas? We like to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Absolutely you can elope to Vegas! Alot of people have a civil marriage ceremony and then a family reception or religious ceremony months or a year later due to the cost of AOS and getting EAD as fast as possible.

I have no idea how fast Clark County is, but here is there website, we thought about Vegas as well :http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/depts/clerk/pages/marriage_information.aspx

Yeah, were thinking of just doing an all inclusive wedding packing (maybe a helicopter wedding over the canyon) maybe with just my parents. But, we're also thinking about telling no one about our Vegas ceremony and just having a "pseudo" ceremony closer to 2010 after she gets her permanent resident card.

we did a justice of the peace at my mom's house 2 weeks after Linh arrived in the US with just my mom and a friend to serve as witnesses, then the psuedo wedding and party 6 months later.

We had no problems with AOS. I guess the toughest decision will be which version of Elvis you get in the photos.

Best of luck on the interview!!

Yes, but just remember that not everyone has that type of wedding...We, like many others just went on down to City Hall - nobody was with us and we don't even have photos, shock horror!

Anh map, that was a good one. You cracked me up.

I see no problem with your plan busterbrown. So long as you fulfill the requirement of legally marrying within 90 days, you're free to have a religious ceremony or celebration at a later date.

We're looking for file for AOS quickly as well. My fiancée really wants to work, as she's never been the type who can just sit around. When I told her that AOS could take many months, even up to a year, she replied "What? I can't work for a year!" I assured her the EAD would come in about 3 months.

Viva Las Vegas!

That's true. It's not absolutely necessary.

But, that being said, at our interview our AO wasn't interested in any photos we had brought with us except the ones of our wedding. We had a small ceremony with family (9 people). We were married in a hotel suite by a pastor we knew; I wore a simple gown; everybody else wore Sunday best. There was a dinner celebration afterwards with wedding cake.

I kind of think (for those who want to marry quickly) that a simple ceremony at City Hall or in your home will suffice (no need to run clear to Vegas). If you can have a couple of witnesses who know you and don't mind having a few pictures taken, that's a bonus.

We just had a city hall wedding with the 2 of us, my stepson and an old friend of hubby's. The IO did look at the pictures of the 4 of us, but we explained how we are going to have two more 'weddings', one with hubby's family here and one with mine in the UK, and it wasn't a problem.

Our very small marriage ceremony is on YouTube, will this count for the CO? ;)

I am sure the CO's know that many of us do not have much family around, and that the 90-day limit puts undue pressure on the couple to get it done quick.

It might be interesting to get a survey going to see how many of us K-1's had a marriage ceremony with more than 5 people in the room.

To "busterbrown", it may be quicker to have your ceremony at your local City Hall. Here in San Jose, we could have applied for the marriage licence, bought the $10 rings - yes, they have rings for sale! -, got a witness from the office for another $10 - you need at least one witness -, and had the ceremony on the spot (based on availability), all in the same building.

It also ensures the marriage papers are given immediately to the office after the ceremony, and you can ask for certified copies of the marriage papers the next day. All within a few minutes of driving from home. No need to wait for the mail...

Of course, the memories will be bigger and better in Las Vegas. Don't forget your camera... and your cash :)

Have fun and congratulations!

ShaSha and I live in Las Vegas. When you apply for your license you will get a form to send in after you are married. It took ShaSha and I about a week to get the copies back after we sent the form. You might want to check into the Little White Wedding Chapel www.littlewhitechapel.com in Las Vegas. Its a very famous place and known worldwide. For a couple 100 dollars you can get wedding, Tux, dress, photos and limo from the hotel. Also check this link for great Las Vegas hotel discounts http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-dea...5?newest=1#last paste into your browser.

We live in Vegas, and got married on Friday the 27th of Feb, and our certificate was available for pick on the Tuesday the 3rd. They say it takes 7-10 days to record the marriage. It may have been sent to the recorders office quickly because we got married at the office of civil marriages. We filed our AOS on the 6th of March.
