I was hoping this was about Paris Hilton.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

The officers probably deserve a warning for assaulting someone already in arrest, although we all know it's not an uncommon scene to have cops beating up inmates, etc.

But I find it appalling that this girl, who DID get caught in a vehicle reported stolen, and DID seem to be acting up on purpose suddenly becomes a victim for being knocked around a little bit (she got hit twice and grabbed by the hair, and some shoveling, but she wasn't beaten to a pulp) and gets to be on national TV acting like she's a poor innocent girl.

Cop is wrong, media is wrong for giving this sort of attention to the girl.

The difference is that the media doesn't lose anything by giving attention to the story.

I mean, can't they report the story and show the cop is wrong without making it seem like the girl is right and innocent?

Without audio it is difficult to fully judge the situation, but it seems to me this girl got what she had coming. She is hardly a victim, and pretty clearly in my mind, a spoiled brat.

I believe the thinking is that the story has no interest if the audience can't connect to it on an emotional level.

In any case its usually only parts of the media that do that anyway - fluff daytime TV current affairs chit.

I think its also about identifying who is most at fault. Clearly the cop is - there's no way what the cop did can be defended.

"She deserved it, your honor" is hardly a convincing argument to make in court; or at a disciplinary hearing.

Cops often times take an aggressive and visibly hostile stance. It's no surprise that a teenager would buck at authority. Judging by the cops reaction I suspect this isn't his first time abusing his authority but perhaps the first time he got caught. What is the background on this officer? Has he done this before? Does he have prior military experience? Why isn't the other cop brought into question and held accountable for allowing this and doing nothing to protect the suspect from this brutality?

"Schene was investigated previously for shooting two people — killing one — in “the line of duty” in 2002 and 2006. Both times his actions were found to be justified, said Ian Goodhew, prosecutor’s deputy chief of staff."

Lots of policemen go decades in law enforcement without shooting anyone.

This guy apparently does often enough.

Justified doesn't always mean right.

she got kicked and then thrown up against the wall... then grabbed by her hair and thrown to the floor where they pinned her down and proceeded to hit her twice... a lot excessive if you ask me...

maybe the girl was being a little lippy but she didn't deserve that...

if he was a private party he would get a minimum of 30 days, and 2 years probation.
