thanks mate.. i will be in sydney the afternoon before... ah could get one at the mlc the afternoon before hand.. hopefully.. from what i got told at the post office awhile ago was that the passport sizes for each country were the same size and the photos i used for my medical were normal passport sizes.. so yehhhhh..

ok ill go to the post office tomorrow most probably and pay the fee.. cheers heaps for the help... so nerve racking all this now that its finally happening haha.. good luck on your journey over there.. keep in touch mate :)

Yeah Aussie and US passport photos are deffo not the same dimensions. Here is a pdf that shows the specifications for us passport photos, and also has a list of places that do the US style ones. the one in the MLC building is on the lower level, where the food court is. it's tucked away around the corner and is a kodak express shop, it's near the tunnel that leads to martin place train station. :)

Sure will keep in touch, you too :) good luck with everything... but you'll be fine :)

Hi everyone!

Got a question. How long did it take for everyone else to get their Police Checks back? Took 25 days to get mine.

Has held me up for two weeks on sending back my IV package to the NVC, but guess I should have applied for it earlier. Just didn't think that the NVC would work so quick or that Australian police would work so slow!

Anyway, done now and sent my package back to the NVC. Now just waiting on a CC and interview to be scheduled.

Mine was ridiculously long when it SAID it would take 10 days it was 3 days short of a month. Totally ridiculous.

As long as you look well kept you should be fine. There are some nice jeans out there. I wouldn't personally wear the ones with holes ripped in them but if you look confident you'll feel confident. That's how I dressed (and I felt most confident in dress pants and a nice blouse).

Hmmm.....seems like we should ignore their estimate of 7-10 days for the police check....that's three of us that waited more like a month! That information doesn't help us now....but I hope it at least gives those who follow a heads up to get it done early!!!

Wish I had done mine earlier...but you know - hindsight is always 20/20 lol

Lol. Well, after giving up calling back about my Best Buy interview, 2.5 wks later I get a phone call:

them: "hi nick, we just need to reschedule your interview if that's okay?"

me: "ummm, what interview exactly?"

them: "oh, no one called you to set up and interview?"

me: "no"

Useless :P

Anyway, third interview with the GM tomorrow. I still think it's ridiculous that you have to have 3 interviews for a retail store sales position. America interviews nothing like I was interviewed in Australia.

:D

Hope you are all well, those that have interviews, have fun in the dungeon! Those who are just awaiting visas/travel dates may your journey continue being awesome :D

Ooo Best Buy would be great!! You can hook me up with more Wii games :D Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great :D

I've heard about this three interview thing and I kinda understand having 2 (one to get rid of the bad people and the second to be sure) but three?!

I personally have had one interview with a job (best not mention actually what I do :P) and the second was only because the guy I would be working for directly was unavailable that particular day (otherwise it just would have been the one). They're hiring me through an Agency so the agency already kinda "vetted" me I suppose, and then forward them my resume which they then carefully assess (as well as my skill test results and written references) and THEN they interview. I really thought I'd hear yesterday (he told me I'd hear in 24 hours and that it should be good news and that I would probably start next week) but NOTHING!! OMG I hate waiting. It's stressing me out! I kinda wanna call and be all "sooo?!" but I'm trying to play it cool when really I want to know at least by tomorrow because I need to go buy more work attire if I'm starting next week (just work shirts really and possibly a jacket) and lets be honest... the monies would be good!

though the three interview process is strange it does have its logic, though as a mid level manager it can be very frustrating to me as I want to get someone in to do a job but it takes months to get someone hired but as a little explanation here is my view on it.

1st HR weeds through all the received resumes and comes up with the closest candidates

2nd department looks through these and chooses best to call in for interview #1

3rd top 3 from interview #1 are called back for a more through interview to whittle it down to one person

4th final chosen interviews with VP of department or the highest person in charge to get a final blessing, if you get called for 3rd interview you have a great chance at the job.

all companies do it different I have been hired with only 1 interview many time and I have also gone through the whole 3 interview process. I think this was all started to protect companies from lawsuits for not hiring someone but cant swear to that.

Question for those that are already in the US....how has everyone gone getting a US driver's license?

I know it probably varies from state to state but I was just curious to see what other ppl have experienced. I've looked at the Texas state DMV website, but it really doesn't tell you anything if you have an international driver's license..only what to do if you have one from another US state.

Sorry if this question has been asked before  .

Here's my thread about Iowa.

Because I'm over 18 I was able to get a full unrestricted licence. I had to take the driving and knowledge test. Because I am over 21 I got a horizontal card. If you're under 21 in iowa your licence is vertical to show you're underage.

Your foreign licence doesn't count for squat here. If you're from Canada they'll do a direct swap-out but otherwise its like your licence doesn't even exist (at least for me).

Washington State has no reciprocal arrangement with any other countries except Germany and BC, Canada. Go figure. My clean 10 year Australian drivers license doesn't mean a thing here. So I have to apply for my license as a learner! haha. This will be fun - reverse parallel parking on the opposite side of the road - uh oh! Maybe this is a blessing in disguise??!

Oh, I also cannot apply without my Green Card. BOO!!!!
