The best part is that they fired 39 times, and hit a fat woman at point blank range only "five or six times". morons.

The worst part was that they planted maryjane in the house to ty to cover the wrong address no-knock up.

Now since when do they issue bags of MJ with your standard patrol car and 38?

"America's Finest" at it again.

ATLANTA — Three former Atlanta police officers who each pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge in connection with the death of an elderly woman during a botched drug raid were sentenced Tuesday to federal prison.

Jason R. Smith, Gregg Junnier and Arthur Tesler received sentences ranging from five years to 10. Kathryn Johnston, 92, was killed by police gunfire during the 2006 raid at her home.

Police used a "no-knock" warrant to enter Johnston's house to look for drugs. But prosecutors say officers found none and tried to cover up the mistake by planting baggies of marijuana.

U.S. District Judge Julie E. Carnes on Tuesday sentenced Smith to 10 years in federal prison. She sentenced Junnier to six years and Tesler to five years.

Prosecutors earlier lowered their recommended sentences for Junnier and Smith. They asked for about 10 years for Smith and roughly five years for Junnier because they said the men cooperated with authorities. Tesler's recommended sentence was not lowered, and was about 10 years.

But the judge said Tuesday Tesler was a "minor participant overall" and lowered the sentence to five years. She said the government's recommendations were "unduly harsh."

All the men will get three years supervised release after they serve their sentences.

The three earlier had each pleaded guilty on the federal charge of violating Johnston's civil rights.

Smith and Junnier also pleaded guilty to state charges, including manslaughter. They are set to be sentenced on those charges next month. Under their plea agreements, their state sentences will be served concurrently with their federal punishment, said Buddy Parker, Junnier's lawyer.

Tesler was sentenced in May to four and a half years in prison on a state charge for lying to FBI agents, but that conviction was overturned on appeal last month.

Johnston was killed by a barrage of bullets fired by officers who stormed into her home on Nov. 21, 2006, with a special "no-knock" warrant to search for drugs.

Tesler, who did not fire a shot, was in Johnston's back yard when plainclothes officers burst in through the front door. Johnston fired a single shot from a rusty revolver at the intruders, but hit no one, and officers fired 39 bullets, hitting the woman five or six times, prosecutors said.

Drug prohibition claims another victim.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

It depends on what area you live it, if you are in the ghetto or crime prone area, The cops will do it and at time get away with it. A few years ago in NYC some cops were doing a drug raid in NY, and this man was coming out of the building they asked him hand us, he put his hand up, then they asked him for ID, when he reached for his wallet they FIRED AT him 41 TIMES, come on, 19 bullets into a person body.

Later on they find out the man was just reaching for his wallet which had a chain attached to it, so in the dark when they saw the silver par

THE CLAIMED they thought it was A GUN.

THEY moved the case out of NY city with the so called reason, their clients can't get a fair trial in NEW YORK CITY.

They had the trial the case upstate to an all white jury and ALL THE COPS WERE FOUND NOT GUILTY.

If you live in Long island or Ritzy area, when you meet with a cop it's so different, GOOD MORNING SIR, GOOD EVENING MAM

IF you live in the rough part of town, LICENSE, REGISTRATION and all this time the cop hand is right on the Gun HOLSTER.

Rodney King March, 1991

Twenty six year-old black man brutally beaten by officers after resisting arrest for speeding; a bystander, George Holliday, videotaped attack. Acquittal of the LAPD officers led to riots in May 1992. King given $3.8m.

Amadou Diallo, February 1999

Street trader from Guinea, shot 19 times when white NYPD officers mistook his wallet for a gun and fired 41 bullets. Four officers acquitted; family paid $3m compensation.

Patrick Dorismond, March 2000

Unarmed 26-year-old Haitian security guard, killed by NYPD officer Anthony Vasquez in bungled drugs sting. Dorismond reacted angrily when undercover detective asked him for crack cocaine and was shot in struggle. Vasquez not prosecuted; family paid $2.25m compensation.

Timothy Thomas, April 2001

Unarmed black 19-year-old, shot by a white officer, Stephen Roach, in Cincinnati. Was wanted for traffic violations and was fleeing. Roach was acquitted. Eight hundred arrests made in ensuing riots.

It depends on what area you live it, if you are in the ghetto or crime prone area,

That's a fact. There aren't too many "no knocks" issued in the affluent neighborhoods.

As it very well should be.

There's a certain level of professionalism, respect, courtesy, etc., that should be afforded to everyone. But, there's also what's called "threat assessment" and 99% of the time, folks in the "crime prone" areas are presenting more of a threat than those in affluent neighborhoods and therefore are dealt with in a different manner. However, it is still possible to be professional and courteous in a high stress situation.

Here's where the problems arise. Most average people do not understand police policy and really don't understand what is involved in making split-second decisions in high-threat incidents. What usually happens is the media (and Al Sharpton) are quick to jump on them for making a poor or improper decision instead of attempting to change the policy that lead them to be in the situation to begin with. We can take that back to the "crime prone" areas and make the argument that if there's more of a likelihood to be involved in a "high-threat" situation, then there's more of a likelihood for a bad policy decision to be made.

There's only two ways out of this -

Change the policy or change the likelihood of being involved in bad policy decisions. Since neither one is really going to happen, there's a standard procedure held to by cops and also by crooks. Cops "stick together" (in the OP's case they didn't do a very good job of it, did they?) and crooks keep calling on Al Sharpton. Neither one is foolproof, but only one is effective.
