Hello Everyone,

For those of you that already received your CR1 Greencard and SSN# - How long did it take.

Who do you contact if you don't receive it.

Is there anyway to work before you get it?

Thank you for your help and I am sorry if this is the wrong forum site.

In many cases SSN card is not automatically ordered by USCIS, give it a few weeks and then visit SSA and order one.

Moving this to "Moving Here" Forum.

Hi! As per advice from the nice lady processing me at the POE, we went ahead and visited the local SSA office the very next day and register. We were told that it will be mailed to us in a week's time. So let's see how true this is (if it will indeed arrive in a week's time that is :) ). At the POE, I was told that the GC will be mailed soon up to 3 months time.

As a CR1 visa holder can we already work right after we receive the SSN, or should we have both SSN and GC to be able to do so?

CR-1 visa holder can take a job the moment they arrive, they have an I-551 stamp in their passport I-551 = GREEN-CARD, and most employers will give the employee up to 30 days to produce the SSN.

Took me around 7 weeks to receive both SSN and Greencard. Had to apply for SSN at the local SS office.

Did you have to bring any other documents other than Passport/Visa and SS-5 Form?

no, thats all my husband had. but we did have the green card when we went to the SS office. the lady didn't even look at it, just the visa in the passport. GC took about 3 weeks, SS took a week after going in there.

No, just my passport. And I didn't fill up the form, I just want there to see if they got my SSN yet or not, the nice lady out there took my passport and said SSN isn't ready but she said to apply it, I didn't fill up anything, she filled up everything on her computer and I just had to sign.

After applying that day at the SS office, I got my SSN on mail around 10-12 days later. Mind you when I applied it was all Christmas and New year, so a lot of holidays fell in between.
