Internet, Phone, Cable or Satellite

My fiance has a package with Time Warner in which she has Internet, phone and cable. The cost for this is $149 (A bit expensive I think)

Can anyone recommend which is better cable or satellite? I was thinking of going to Direct tv for satellite and Vonage for the phone provider as they offer a good rate for $29.99 which includes free calls for the UK. Just need a decent ISP.

Yes it is rather expensive, been checking around myself. I am pleased with the phone service, actually it's closer to 40 bucks a month with all them damn taxes, but can call anywhere in the USA without adding huge fortunes to my phone bill, that is saving me money. Internet advertised speeds are zillions of bits per second, but only true between the hours of 2:00 to 6:00 AM, after the hackers go to bed and normal people get up. A local server said using his DSL network would be far faster as I would have a direct line to his box though I haven't tried it. Did get Direct TV out here, rates are definitely better than the cable company, but would have to cut down both mine and my neighbors trees. Also a major problem if you live in the city with those skyscrapers in the way.

It's a crime what they charge for TV, old FCC regulations limited commercials to three minutes per half hour, watching some of those old programs, more like 12 minutes per half hour. We use to have basic cable for $6.95 per month with even an optional HBO channel in those 12 channels, but now, just local channels and a bunch of those infomercial channels trying to sell you something. Pushed the discovery channels past channel one hundred and charge extra for that now. The premium channels show the same old movies night after night, but those are optional. Just seems their TV rates should be pennies with all those extra commercials added.

We do have a cable committee in town that controls the franchise, but they have no say on programming nor rates, so what good are they?

Cellular phones are another huge ripoff, unlike land lines that require miles and miles of very expensive copper wire that has to be buried underground, just stick a six inch high antenna someplace and are in business. But yet land line rates are much lower. Go figure.

We do have a choice with Time Warner, either use them or don't, no other cable company in town. Is possible that cellular phone technology can also replace cable, they are working on it.

I have always been with Verizon for my phone but about two years ago I switched from cable to satellite. I had an 8 year old Sony Trinitron (which is still sitting here in my computer room) and I was totally overwhelmed on how much better the satellite picture was. We bought a large, LCD flat screen and also upgraded to HD - WOW!

We have DirecTV for $42.99/mo, and the phone and DSL with AT&T for about $35/mo.

We get rain fade a lot with DirecTV because of all the trees around here, but then, the cable would go out with the power, or when it stormed anyways, and DirecTV has the best picture I have seen yet. AT&T is reliable, even when everything else is knocked out.

We get everything with the Dish Network so it is a bit expensive and also have DSL in the same package.

Wow, rain fade  So far we have had no problems with the dish and it actually preforms better than cable. We rarely ever get the digital breakup that we would get often on cable and the picture is so much better than cable.

That's comparable to what we're paying - $45/mo for Dish Network (Satellite), and about $35 for cable internet and local phone (land line). So far we've been really happy with the Dish Network. They gave us one DVR which we can record off of two TV's from. Having a DVR is a near necessity, IMO - if you're already spending the money for cable or satellite.

Yeah, I am surrounded by 100ft Doug Firs and Redwoods. I am shooting through a gap in the trees, so it don't take much. But even in open areas, sometimes a big, thick, nasty thunderhead will block the signal for a few minutes.

Wow, livin' the good life. I kind of miss my Colorado roots. I was just thinking what a nice drive it would be going over the top of Grand Mesa from Grand Junction to Cederidge.

I love Glen Canyon. I was driving back from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and crossed the Rockies at night. I kept seeing all these wonderful rock formations hanging over the road and decided to spend the night to check the scenery out in the morning. I am glad I did.

We too needed something that wouldn't rape us.. if calling back home! We're that interested in TV apart from the weather now and then.. most of what we need or want to watch can be found online or via netflix!

We have basic cable TV from Comcast around $11, Vonage unlimited calls North America and most of Europe + we rent a number in Ireland (people back home can call us in Florida like it's a local call) from them all in is $38 inc taxes. Also have Comcast internet that went from 8MB to 6MB without us being told?.. that's around $45 per month. I'd switch to DSL if we could then we'd be stuck with a phone company and a bunch of extra charges for something we don't use. Everything is around $94 or there about for Basic cable, 6MB internet and unlimited calls to North America and Europe.

Not that bad considering we where paying just the phone company before $70 a month before we even made a call!

Driving over the Rockies at night  Colorado is a very beautiful state. I plan on spending a lot of brain-dead days sitting by a lake up on Grand Mesa fishing and watching the clouds roll by

We have Time Warner as our internet for $37 a month. We are using MagicJack as our house phone which is connected to the internet, $20 a year. Its not typo, its really $20 a year for the license fee. Unlimited calls anywhere in the US and Canada. We do not have cable or satellite tv but we have flatscreen tv so we have access to HD channels.
