Had my oath yesterday, 88 people were sworn in from different countries. The ceremony was scheduled at 9AM but they started at 10AM. We got there 8:20 and there's a lot of people in the line already. They started to let the applicant in by 8:45AM. At the line one immigration officer was checking the oath notice letter, the one you have to answer after your interview, good thing I asked here if i can fill that up already before going to the ceremony and mostly i got a response that better to fill it up before your ceremony to save your time. By 9:30AM they let the guest in, another immigration officer reminded us how to sign the certificate and advised to check it if all the information is correct before leaving the place. Aso she told us it's better to sign it at home since you will be relax and to avoid mistake. By 10AM the federal judge arrived and started the ceremony. After the oath of allegiance he congratulated us and told we were officially a US citizen. We had 3 guest speakers and after that, the ceremony ended. The ceremony took only 20 mins. After the ceremony we went to SS to update my record but according to them it will take 4-6 weeks before my new card arrive since they have to verify my citizenship since it's only new. Then we went to apply for passport. Finally I'm done. Thank you VJer's for all your help.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to give everyone the heads up on passport fees and processing time. Had my oath taking 2 weeks ago and I applied for my passport on June 1. Opted for expedited processing and I paid $149.85 for it. Then an additional $42.50 to the USPS for passport fee and express mail. Yesterday I received my new USA passport. Took only 10 days. Hi everyone!

Just wanted to thank you all for the support you've given all throughout the years. I can't believe that this journey is almost over. *tear*

Needless to say, I passed my interview this morning =) The process took less than 20 minutes. Waiting to be called in, however, felt like an eternity. My appointment was set for 9:05, but I didn't get called in until 9:20. I was out the door w/ a big smile and a huge sigh of relief before 9:45.

I'll keep you all updated when I get my oath letter. =)

ps.

if you're wondering what questions were asked, here are a few that i recall: (in no particular order)

1. what does the presidents cabinet do

2. how many chief justices are there

3. give one branch of the government

4. if the president and v.p. can no longer serve, who becomes the president

5. we elect a u.s. senator for how many years

i'm pretty sure there was another question, but i really don't remember what it was...?? unless there were only 5?? lol. i just know that even before he finished the question, i already knew the answer. =D

then i was asked to read: "when is columbus day?"

then i had to write: "columbus day is in october."

Hey Guys!!!!!!!!!! I went to local field office today to find out my oath day, is on July 17th. Wahoo! But I have a question, do I need to notice or go to SSA to update my SS card information and tell them I'm a citizen by that time?

Hi BigRay,

It is best to update your information in SSA that way their system will be updated too, it is not necessarily to do it the day after your oath ceremony but if you have enough time you can do it too so you wont forget it. I, too went to SSA after my ceremony and showed my naturalization certificate but according to them it will take 4-6 weeks before i will receive my new card since they need to verify my status.
