Yay for growing babies!

Eveline, the videos are very helpful. I'm not sure what the name of the fold is that I was practicing -- you fold the lower (front) edge up a little, then fold the sides in just at the front and tuck one side inside the pocket made by the other side. The newspaper fold seems to make much more sense. The prefolds I bought so far are infant-sized, and they seem so small, but when I try folding them (with nothing inside) I guess they look about right :) I got three Prorap covers in the mail today -- someone here recommended them, but I don't remember who it was -- and they're cute, nothing fancy but the price was good. I thought I'd start with a small number and see how I liked them. I had thought about getting some all-in-ones also to make it easier for my husband and whoever else might be taking care of the baby -- don't know if many daycares accept those or not. My sister doesn't think so, but then again, they're not much different to deal with than a disposable except for having to keep the dirty one. I'm reading about wool covers also -- I guess those are mostly for overnight? My mom will laugh when she sees how complicated diapering has become :)

We're so up-in-the-air right now as far as childcare is concerned. When we got pregnant, since my husband was working second shift, we thought we'd try taking turns caring for the baby and try to avoid daycare altogether. But his plant is closing, and he's taking evening classes this fall, which means him looking for a day job, which means daycare if I go back to work. That seems so daunting. I can't believe we're at six months now, almost 2/3 of the way there, and there is still so much to arrange. My sister and I have started getting together at a cafe with another woman on Sundays to knit, so at least he's covered as far as booties and hats go. :)

Hi everyone! Baby Roland was born on April 25th at 8:51 A.M. He weighed 8lbs 14oz.

On Thursday night April 23rd, Mom was having very bad contractions but were only about 8-15 minutes apart. We both didn't get any sleep and kept waiting for the contractions to become more regular and closer together. Friday April 24th (Roland's due date). The contractions were getting regular and were about 6 minutes apart. So we went to the Birthing Center to get checked. She was only 3cm dilated (was 1cm a couple days before) and the contractions seemed to slow a little so they sent us home, and they gave Mom something to help her sleep some through the contractions. We both ate and took a nap. She woke me up about an hour later saying she was all wet. Sure enough her blanket was soaked so we went to the Birthing Center again. The contractions really slowed down when we got there. They checked her and she was still only 3cm and they tried to test her panty liner to see if it was amniotic fluid, but they couldn't get a positive on the swab. They were about to send us home again when I guess more of the fluid gushed out. The nurse saw it and said "Yep that is definitely amniotic fluid" and got us a room.

Since the contractions weren't very close together they decided to put her on Pictocin. She didn't want an epidural because she wanted to try and have the baby naturally. After about 6 hours she couldn't really handle the pain so she decided to have the epidural. After that she was really relaxed, didn't feel the contractions and we both got a couple hours sleep. It was now Sunday, April 25. At about 5am she was checked and was at 7cm. I was asleep but apparently she went from 5 to 7 in about 30 minutes. At about 6am she was getting worried because she could really feel the contractions. They decided to up the epidural some and it was really effective. A couple hours later she was complaining because the numbness in her legs were really bugging her. So they lowered the dosage of the epidural. She slept a little bit and woke up nauseas and dizzy. I knew that a lot of women feel this when giving birth so I called the nurse. She checked her and she was fully dilated. She couldn't feel anything so they waited until she felt pressure so she would know when to push. She awoke probably about 8am. And was going crazy from the contractions and the numbness still in her legs. She also had a fever. I called the nurse they gave her some Tylenol and checked her and felt the baby's head just a little bit away from coming out. She pushed like a pro and it only took about 20-30 minutes to push the baby out.

I got to cut the umbilical cord :) We all had to stay 2 days in the hospital because both mom and baby had a fever. But they wen't away. Mom is really sore cause the delivery was really hard on her. But all is well. The green card also came the same day our baby did. Our baby was 9 hours away from being born on his due date.

@EricC: congrats on your little man. I hope mommy is doing better and I'm wishing the three of you some happy first moments togehter. Enjoy it.

@Zaid: Get well soon, little man. Adam's stomach bug time started around that age too. Everytime we went to the playground he'd end up with a stomach bug.

Ear infections are a b*tch. I'm glad we did decide on tubes after all. Adam is doing so much better, he lets the ped check his ears now and before he'd always get all small on the table, holding his ears closed. He definetely had some pain in them all the time. I wonder if that already affected his hearing. He's picking up words really good right now so I'm not worried but I think that every ear infection leaves its marks sooner or later.

Adam has a new word: ADAM  . He walks around saying Adam, Adam, Adam, Adam all day :luv:
