Wow, no one pointing fingers at Nixon yet

nixon was one of the most liberal domestic economic presidents ever..had price controls, etc,..

And he went to China.

And Bush senior was ambassador to China and Pres. Bush eats Chinese food. It all ties in.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

He was the first US President to visit Communist China. It was a big deal at the time. It was the first step to opening relations with China and the west. And look at it now, we owe them a trillion dollars.

So even Nixon did something good. George W must have done something good too.

He ended the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War but that's been forgotten now. If you didn't know that, thank an American public school teacher.

Watergate overshadowed it, as it should have.

But lets examine Nixon's Vietnam record. He ended the war sure, but he made some spectacular blunders - most notably the Operation Menu bombings in Cambodia - which led more or less directly to the rise of the Khmer Rouge in that country, and the infamous genocides under Pol Pot. Public school curriculums probably don't teach that either ;)

Even Nixon's "good" was pepper with $hit.

I hate to fight an old war but you forgot the North Vietnamese were in Cambodia with their supply routes. That's the reason for the bombing. The U.S. supported the Lon Nol anti-communist government. The U.S. bombing ended around 1972 and the communist Pol Pot killed a million Cambodians from 1975-1978. The Democrats killed all support to S. Vietnam and Cambodia in 1975 leading to the killing fields. Neither Pres. Ford or Carter did anything to stop the genocide- Nixon wasn't in power during that period.

There are worse presidents than GWB (James Buchanan, Warren G. Harding etc.), but those Presidents didn't inherit the global military/economic empire we have today.

Franklin Pierce was another BAD president.

The worst in recent history is Jimmy Carter, hands down!

Funny that some of you, who were no doubt toddlers at the time, cite Nixon. The fact is that Nixon was one of the most savvy and competent U.S. presidents this country ever had.

Liberals and the same superficial element that brings us Hussein Obama, and Jimmy boy, brought down Nixon......Go figger?

Let's not rewrite history so drastically. I well remember the end of US involvement in VietNam -- with marines being evacuated from the roof of the US embassy in Saigon in 1975, in the year following his resignation. Lets remember that he resigned after Alexander Haig withdrew his support and sided with those who would impeach him. Rather than be impeached and convicted for abuse of power, Nixon resigned.

Nixon *did not* end our involvement in the Vietnam War. He just changed how we fought it.

Wow. Talk about rewriting history. The marines were the embassy guards that were the last out. Nixon IS the one that got us out of Vietnam totally. How

he did so was a back stabbing way of doing it but that is the only way it was going to be done. Nixon also went to China and opened that closed society up. He also got the Soviets to come to the table finally on arms controls. We were out of Vietnam by 1972. Also Alexander haig had nothing whatsoever to do with it. Probably not one iota of anything you said was true. If so please back up with facts.
