Why the outrage? We're really not so far away from that.

No outrage here. Gotta love this kind of justice

It is an act of vengeance...not justice.

The only difference between vengeance and justice is that when one administers justice,

one does so according to the law, whereas with vengeance, one takes the law into their

own hands.

One thing I don't like about Sharia law is that it is not apply equally/fairly between the sexes.

I think she is doing this for the other women who may find themselves in her place. Money is nothing in comparison to what she suffered. And if other men think they can buy their way out of similar consequences, they will continue to do so.

I think it is superb that she has turned the tables on the establishment rather than behave how they expected.

Well given the way the system works - that's not surprising.

Of course - its still a far cry from a judicial system that recognises and respects human dignity.

That's not the only difference. Vengeance seeks to exact out the same harm done, while justice punishes unlawful acts in ways that are considered appropriate forms of punishment. At least in modern thought, 'eye for an eye' has been regarded as barbaric, just like we've progressed to recognizing the immorality of slavery. Brutality is never justified as a lawful form of punishment.

I agree wholeheartedly that this man needs to be punished exactly the same manner to experience what she feels, and to show people of what could happen if they commit a serious crime that can never bring back time for the victim.

I bet the dude wished he pulled that crime off in America, as long as he isn’t smoking dope, he is OK. Plea bargain that baby down to level one felony, maybe a few years and we let you out to do the same. Sad, not that we should kill them either, Texas is a death state, but if the dude got arrested growing pot he could face a sentence from 1 year up to life in prison and that is mandatory, no plea barging there baby. Are justice system is screwed up hard. I feel so sad for the poor young women, how horrific, they should pay her big time back, like a free pass to the world. :bonk:

"The same harm" can be just and "appropriate forms of punishment" - unjust.

That's a subjective determination of course. The difference is surely in whether the punishment meted out reflects the values of the society - in the case of Iran or Saudi Arabia it does. In the case of this country, or others which place stock in the concept of human rights - blinding someone in punishment is as unjustifiable as medicating schizophrenics so they can be executed.

Modern thinking on what is just disagree with exacting the same harm. For one, it's barbaric (moral aspect) and two, it is impossible to inflict the same exact harm done to another.

It doesn't have to be exactly the same to feel "just" - just the same degree of severity.

So if someone kills your family, the perps family should be killed in order for justice to be done?

No, but if someone kills 5 people, I'd say he should be killed 5 times.

Killed once, resuscitated, killed again, resuscitated again, killed again, etc

interesting view on justice brother MA

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

So justice to you is based on some kind of emotional satisfaction?
