So justice to you is based on some kind of emotional satisfaction?

It's supposed to, yes, but not to me - to the victims.

Well not really... That might be a secondary result - but judges don't assign sentences based on whether or not it will appease the victims. Its about the offence to society and the breaking of its laws.

Hence when some people feel that a murderer ought to be strung up by the testicles, its not a sentence that will doled out by a judge.

Why is it "our system" of justice keeps getting talked about as if we have always been such pusses?

This modern touchy'feely style of dealing with criminals is not exactly the way we did it from the start.

Even if we were to go back to public hangings (perhaps with HBO rights) we would still be consistent with our tradition and history.

Let's quit pretending "we Americans are committed to a more civil form of justice".

This notion goes hand and hand to the revolving door of justice we now live with.

Untold millions of victims have paid the price to maintain that smug "we are better than those countries" attitudes.

We have recently had between 500 and 600 people KILLED by those out-on-parole in my state alone.

So if someone kills your family, the perps family should be killed in order for justice to be done?

No, but if someone kills 5 people, I'd say he should be killed 5 times.

Killed once, resuscitated, killed again, resuscitated again, killed again, etc

French physician Jean Baptiste Vincent Laborde wrote at great length of his technique of rythmic tongue-pulling, which was to be carried out for no less than three hours following a person's suspected death, you know, to make sure they were actually dead. I think we should use this method to make sure this person is actually dead after killing them five times. :P
