If you are successful in getting the K1 you might want to get The Disney Channel so she can watch Hannah Montana while you are at work.

I guess either way it will be some big adjustment.

And if the visa is granted (which, lets be true, will be the case, even though it might take some waivers and stuff) there will be lots of raised eyebrows from many people here in the US.

Prejudice is a human thing, and if I would see a 45-50 year old American with a 18 year old Phillipina - I would rise my eyebrows.

It's nearly 30 years difference. thats quite a bit. And it does rise red flags because she was a minor. But that's not of my business.

best of luck - i hope you will both find what you BOTH are looking for.

I would consider getting married first and then applying for a CR1/K3.

It would help the consolate know this is a serious relationship and not the intention of the benificary just getting into the US. It could also help smooth over the possible scutiny of your relationship prior to her turning 18. That's is just my opinion. Me and my husband have a age gap as well, (depends on where you come from) If I were a guy it might not matter. Unfortunately, people are prone to raise eyebrows at a woman being older. That is what was presented to us when deciding on K1 versus CR1/K3

Here's one for the age-difference books out of today's news:

NORFOLK - Yue Cheng from Williamsburg enlisted in the Navy and was later accepted into the prestigious FBI academy in Quantico.

But her promising career has unraveled following a federal investigation that concluded she entered a sham marriage to gain U.S. citizenship seven years ago.

The 26-year-old trainee FBI officer, who joined the academy last year, was arrested Thursday. She is charged with five offenses linked to a marriage she entered into in Las Vegas when she was 19, according to Dana J. Boente, the acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Alex J. Turner, special agent-in-charge of the FBI.

According to the criminal complaint, Cheng applied to the FBI in Norfolk to become a special agent in March 2007. While in training at the bureau's academy at Quantico on March 3, 2008, she admitted to the fraudulent marriage.

"In 2001, at the age of 19 she married, in Las Vegas, a 57-year-old resident of California for the sole purpose of obtaining citizenship," the complaint said.

You will need written permission from her parents if you choose to marry there. It's up to you both to decide what to do.

http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_757.html

"Marriage applicants who are age 18 to 21 must have parental consent in writing, those age 21 to 25 must have written parental advice (a written indication that the parents are aware of the couple's intent to marry). The revised Family Code of the Philippines, which took effect on August 4, 1988, prohibits marriage for individuals below the age of 18."

Expect her to be asked questions about your age difference during the interview stage. You can read on the forums the type of questions and stories. I think I read one story where the fiancee was younger than the man's children. She was asked if she was aware of it. She eventually passed the interview. Always be honest and never lie.

(personal opinion)

So up until the age of 25 you need to talk to the parents. Compare that to the US where you only need turn 18 . I suppose everyone has their own little Tupperware dish we carry around in our minds about what is wrong and not. I think some need to keep their's sealed up. Its your life and hers. You will experience the same thing in public by some so expect it. Knowing her while 17 even raises my eyebrows and I am fairly liberal on the subject of age differences.

There is 24 years difference between Rosa and I. It is heaven. We lived in Colombia for 6 months and you see age differences of 20-30 years constantly. Different culture then USA.

When I read this...I can't help but think its the fiancee that's writing it and not the fiance. Either way they asked a question and didn't asked to be judged. I think the age will definately be looked at closely but if they truly love each other hopefully they will have the opportunity to be together. GOOD LUCK!

Then why come on this site and ask if your age difference will pose a problem in getting the visa?

Methinks you wanted advice on this matter....so its not all about 'God wouldn't let us be together for over a year if this weren't a real relationship'. You got some very good answers to your question, especially from KimandRuss and pusbrk. The fact is your now fiancee was under the age of 18 when you began dating her, which is cause for concern. The consul could give a flying rat's a$$ that she doesn't look her age. Be prepared to justify your relationship on all levels, and count on the possibility that some very personal questions may be asked regarding your relationship.

In Colombia it is legal to marry at age 12 with parents permission. Consent age is 14. The farther from the city you get, the more you see age difference. A lot of times it is a financial necesity. Other times it is for love and it really shows. Gentlemen age 40-50 with a teenager you ask. Saw it many times in the mountain villages. My wife happens to be 24 years my junior. There are many state in America that allow marrige at 14 with parents permission. So I can not possibly see a problem in your situation. And I wish you a long an happy marriage. Enjoy life and let others think what they will.

TWENTY SIX YEARS DIFFERENCE HERE. GOT MARRIED IN THE PHILIPPINES. DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES. THE INTERVIEW WAS A NON EVENT, AGE WAS NEVER MENTIONED. I WILL ALMOST GUARANTEE THAT THIS POST WAS NOT WRITTEN BY THE USC.

WE GET A FEW ODD LOOKS OCCASIONALLY, MOSTLY FROM AMERICAN MIDDLE AGED LADIES. I WILL SAY THAT WE ARE BOTH HAPPY. MY WIFE IS VERY MATURE FOR HER AGE. I DID NOT MARRY MY WIFE BECAUSE OF HER AGE. WE HAVE A LOVING, CARING RELATIONSHIP.

LIVE LIFE AS IF TODAY IS THE LAST. PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE OPINION OF OTHERS. THERE IS BUT ONE THAT YOU YOU WILL BE JUDGED BY!!!

You will need written parental approval to get the CFO processed. Other than that if you can provide documentation of a valid relationship you shouldn't have any problems. My wife is 32 years my junior and we blew right through the entire process and she got her 10 year card last May. Certainly don't pay any attention to snide comments about the age difference, besides, its none of their business. Good luck
